PURPOSE The purpose of this presentation is to provide the participant with an overview of 24 tips to effective networking. The Art of Networking

OBJECTIVES: At the end of this learning experience, the participant should be able to:  Know the goal of Networking,  Set Expectations for Networking,  Understand how to reach out to someone new,  Understand how to build the relationship, and  Make Networking a Habit. The Art of Networking

The Real Goal of Networking  Helping Other People.  Understanding other’s needs before telling about your own. The Art of Networking

Setting Expectations  You don’t need to know the most people, just know the right people.  Don’t expect anything.  Don’t leave networking to chance.  Go beyond your industry.  Don’t dismiss anyone as irrelevant. The Art of Networking

How to reach out to someone new  Quantify how much time you are going to take.  Start by offering praise, not requesting help.  Keep your s short.  If you must ask a favor, then ask for permission to continue. The Art of Networking

How to build the relationship.  Try to provide as much value as you possible can.  Start by focusing on being friendly and helpful.  Develop the habit of introducing people.  Ask if people want to be connected.  Nurture your current network. The Art of Networking

Making Networking a Habit  Try to connect one person per day.  Don’t take “No,” personally.  Make it a point to follow up.  Did you fail? Try reaching out in a different way. The Art of Networking

Things to remember  Network with the intention of helping others, not yourself.  Networking is more about listening to what people say than saying the right things.  Sometimes the best networking opportunities involve real work.  is easy to send….and ignore. The Art of Networking
