«Life online is what YOU make of IT» 1 st EPAL–TEE Vasilika

Yesterday night my PC WENT OFF…

Why?

It WAS infected by a virus. I received an with an attachment…

… saying: Congratulations! You won! Open this file to see your PRIZE!” … and I opened it!

Didn’t you have an antivirus program?

I did, but it wasn’t updated…

Didn’t you keep backup files? Back-up program Hard drive Back-up Media

Unfortunately, not… Back-up program Hard drive Back-up Media X

HOW stupid I was…

I like chatting ON THE Internet…

But last night a DUDE appeared…

My name is Aggelos and I’m 17 years old

What’s your name and how old are you?

I gave him an answer but not the true one!

I’m sending you my photo. Could you send me yours…

I sent HIM one, but not mine!

Would you like to meet each other?

No, I wouldn’t! He could be anyone.

I refused to meet him and quit THE chat immediately.

Chris, my last credit card account has some strange debits. It’s about some purchases that I’ve never done. Is there something you want to say to me?

Sorry dad! I’ve used it to buy from the Net a mp3 player …

But it’s been already three months since I ordered it and I haven’t still received anything....

SO, THEY WERE CROOKS THEN!

Sorry dad!

I forgive you. But you should know that if you want to make a buy on the Net you have to choose a website of a RELIABLE company which will ensure you a SAFE way of transaction.

I was going to start a project on the history of Second World War …

… and while I was surfing the web I came across a website of Nazi content.

It was distressing and irritating at the same time!

The most outrageous thing was the fact that there were some games aiming at eliminating afro- americans…

Fortunately I have heard about the SAFELINE site where one can report suspicious websites…

That’s what I did! I reported the specific website for promoting racist and xenophobic content.

That’s super! What CD is it?

It is not a CD dad! It’s a music file I have downloaded from the Internet.

Do you know that you have infringed law 2121 of 1993 which protects copyright in Greece?

What do you mean?

It means that only the creators of projects are entitled to REPRODUCE and EXPLOIT their work. No one else can use it.

Piracy deprives creators from their livelihood and destroys the entire creative circle.

I show responsibility and respect the rules of safe navigation through the virtual reality of the Net…

… I cooperate with people of different cultures and races. Because “More people together means better done”…

I stay away from frivolous actions and I try to explore new paths of knowledge

… because the most powerful tool for protecting ourselves from the potential dangers of the Internet is our MIND!
