Overall Theme Love vs. Fame and Fortune. Jim Morrison was rising to stardom after a breakup. Metaphors evoke melancholy tone= emotions the speaker goes through thinking about a woman he loved. fame can change a person's perspective on life, but it can't change how they once loved.
