LEARNING OBJECTIVES This presentation will seek to achieve the following: a.Identify the moral principles upon which work is conducted in CU b.Understand the way the governance is structured in CU c.Evaluate the Administrative Processes of CU and suggest ways to improve it.

WORK ETHICS -This is the moral principle upon which we discharge our responsibilities in any given assignment. -It is a guide that enables us to meet the expectations of the organization and derive satisfaction for self. -It is the sum of all appropriate and acceptable workplace behavior -It is the expression of compliance with corporate values and philosophy

WORK ETHICS: FOCUS AREAS -Spirituality -Attendance -Character -Appearance -Attitude -Productivity -Organizational Skills -Communication -Cooperation -Respect

OUR CORE VALUES -These are guiding principles that dictate our actions. -They are signposts of what is tolerable and abominable -They are our unwavering code that helps to establish performance standards. -They determine compliance to corporate goals

OUR CORE VALUES – cont’d These values include: -Spirituality -Possibility Mentality -Integrity -Capacity Building -Responsibility -Diligence -Sacrifice

GOVERNANCE STRUCTURE OF CU -A look at the pattern of operations at creation will help us see how to approach governance at all levels. Genesis 1. -We see very clearly that: -Vision is the basis for any institutional operation -Vision precedes Structure -Structure maximizes Resources

CU GOVERNANCE STRUCTURE: ELEMENTS -Board of Regents -Chancellor/Chairman leads -Senate -Vice Chancellor/Chairman leads, Registrar serves as the Secretary -University Management -Vice Chancellor as Chief Academic Officer, Registrar serves as Chief Administrative Officer -HoD/HoU The University runs a Collegiate System for her academics and a Committee System for sections of administration

ADMINISTRATIVE PROCESSES IN CU -The performance of any organization is hinged on an efficient and effective administrative process. -Administration is the management of the affairs of an organization. -Administration is simply “people running processes based on rules using tools”

ADMINISTRATIVE PROCESSES IN CU – cont’d -People: Leaders of Units, Individuals within units, internal and external stakeholders. -Processes : Academic Activities, Non-Academic Activities as well as other official functions targeted at achieving the Vision 10:2022 -Rules : University Law, Senate Resolutions, Staff Handbook, Administrative Policies, Values and Traditions -Tools : Communication Channels, Information Storage & Retrieval Systems

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE - Lay strong foundation for management oversight - Structure every administrative task to add value - Promote ethical and responsible decision making - Respect the rights of all - Encourage enhanced performance - Remunerate fairly and responsibly - Recognize the legitimate interest of all stakeholders

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR GOOD ADMINISTRATION -Maintain comprehensive & accessible records -Guard against assumptions based on precedence -Check administrative drift -Remove obstacles to information exchange -Promote effective communication -Manage complexity in decision making -Have a systems perspective in handling activities

13 -We are the salt of the earth and until we participate fully in the scheme of things, the world may never benefit from the worth of our competence. -We are the light of the world and until we project our work, the world may never know what it is worth. 10. CONCLUSION
