Hong Kong is a small city at South China a former British colony and has returned to China since 1997 is famous for its expansive skyline and deep natural harbour there is 1 private and 8 Government funded universities in HK the University of Hong Kong, the oldest university in the territory, and was referred by Quacquarelli Symonds as a "world-class comprehensive research university and was ranked 24th on the 2009 THES-QS World University Ranking, making it 1st in Asia the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology and Chinese University of Hong Kong are ranked 35 and 46, respectively, making them rank 4th and 2nd, respectively, in Asia.

Hong Kong Journals Online a full-text image database providing access to selected academic and professional journals, both in English and Chinese, published in Hong Kong. titles included in this database cover a wide range of disciplines including law, medicine and education the earliest going back to 1872 more than 170,000 images from over 40 titles are accessible on the database new issues of the titles are also be added as soon as being received

The Hong Kong Oral History Archives

The Hong Kong Oral History Archives was jointly operated by the Centre of Asian Studies and Department of Sociology of the University of Hong Kong the Project has organized a collection of over 200 oral histories during 2001 and 2004 the collection contains memories of individuals from a diversity of sectors, ethnic groups, trades and occupations, associations and communities the interviews recorded pivotal points in an interviewees life, such as his/her birth, family and marriage, schooling and education, employment, migration and connections with his/her home place, residence and community, leisure and social life, as well as their observation and witnesses of special historical events. the interview records have been edited into digitized materials

China Through Western Eyes

China Through Western Eyes digitize and provide online access to materials important to China studies these materials are ones in which Western foreigners wrote and described what they saw and encountered in China from about the 16th century until 1911, when the revolution led by Dr. Sun Yat-sen successfully overthrew the Manchu Dynasty, and thus began the modern China era the printed materials, from which these online files were made, are housed in HKU Libraries Special Collections holds approximately 173,000 scanned pages from 389 titles in English, French, German, Spanish, Dutch, Italian and Latin

Hong Kong & the West until 1860 to provide online access and retrieval to a variety of valuable information, including sketches, maps, and the accounts of western visitors and settlers about early Hong Kong, which are scattered in rare titles located in Special Collections and the Fung Ping Shan Library of the University of Hong Kong the year 1860 has been identified as the cut-off date because it marked the end of the first phase of Hong Kong history. Geographically and politically, the territory of Hong Kong was confined to Hong Kong Island until 1860 when the Convention of Peking was signed under which Kowloon became part of the territory a total of forty-two titles, mostly in English and published before 1860, were selected from the collection for inclusion in this database the database now comprises 531 images, including 49 pictures and 482 full text pages It is updated periodically to include new entries.

Union Catalogue of Chinese Overseas Collections the history of overseas Chinese is more than 1000 years. the collection permanently documents the contributions of Chinas overseas communities to the social, economic development of their origins and residing places being a part of history of China, these documents help strengthen the link, communication, interaction and cooperation between the Chinese and their motherland, not to mention their special value to the overseas Chinese themselves with a view to foster resource sharing and support overseas Chinese research, the libraries of the University of Hong Kong and the Jinan University has jointly created this database to enable users searching Chinese overseas materials in their collections effectively.
