You don’t need to list the 3 sources of prayer for the exam, but you will need to be able to give an example of a scripture quote that can serve as a prayer. (and be able to show how it can be used) You may use one of the examples given in class but it might be nice if you could come up with one of your own.

Prayer Qualities Needed for Prayer from Gospels: Qualities Needed for Prayer from Gospels: 1. conversion of heart (Mt 5:23-24) 2. faith (Mt 7:7-11) 3. filial boldness (Mk 9:23) 4. desire to do God's will (Mt 9:38) 5. watchfulness (Mk 1:15) 6. perseverance (Lk 11:5-13) 7. patience (Lk 18:1-8) 8. humility (Lk 18:9-14) You need to know their meaning and be able to list at least 4

Jesus began each prayer with: Jesus began each prayer with: AMEN -- (I believe) Showing Confidence How does this type of prayer relate to what we have been talking about all semester about the attitude we must have?

Gospel Points

Woman Caught in Adultery …. Who was Jesus the most upset with? Why?

Judgment Wrong to pass judgment on others. But must make judgments of actions in order to make moral decisions. It is more wrong to judge another than the thing we are judging. “Don’t take the speck out of another’s eye until you take the plank out of your own.” Know why Jesus makes the pieces of wood different sizes.

Forgiveness Forgiveness Know This Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go first to reconcile with them, and then come and offer your gift. Penitential Rite at Mass Penitential Rite at Mass Forgive us as …..(from “Our Father”) Forgive us as …..(from “Our Father”)

Theological & Psychological Teachings Suggested Topics – You may choose your own. 10 Points on Exam 1. Paradigms (what you believe) powers perception and your perception powers your emotions. 2. Religion is about having the “right answers” (all can’t be right). God (Jesus) gives us the “living answer.” 3. Living in Jesus, you don’t need laws. “Love and do what you will.” St. Augustine 4. Laws can lead us to judge others who think differently. 5. God is a verb, not a noun. 6. Forgiveness is not about “forgetting”.. it is about “letting go.” 7. Forgiveness does not excuse anything. 8. God does not judge us, we judge ourselves.
