◦ Crust (solid) ◦ Mantle (semi solid) ◦ Outer Core (semi solid) ◦ Inner Core (solid)

 Made of rock, soil, etc.  Is the outermost layer of the Earth  Divided into continental crust and oceanic crust  Continental crust (contain continents). “Float” on the upper mantle.  Oceanic crust (contains the seafloor). Is pressed deeper into mantle than the continents.

 Lithosphere: what the continental/oceanic crust is sitting on. Is solid.  Asthenosphere: below the crust (just on the mantle). Has the ability to flow. Is what actually moves the continental/oceanic crust.

 Composed of Magnesium, Iron, Aluminum, Silicon, and Oxygen.  Mostly solid, but sometimes it gets so hot that the mantle can “flow” under pressure.  Hot rock rises. Cooler rock descends. This creates slow moving convection currents.

 Semi solid layer  Is made of liquid Iron + nickle.  Is what creates Earth’s magnetic field (because Iron is a good conductor of electricity)

 At very center of the Earth.  Solid ball of Iron.  Solid because of the intense pressure from rest of Earth’s layers.  Iron is radioactive so it gives off heat to outer core and mantle

 How will you get through each layer?  What items will you take with you?  What will you see?  How will it feel in each layer?  What could go wrong?
