 Our Team  About Moultrie Technical College  Purpose  Challenges  Solution to problem ◦ Microsoft Access  Value to Moultrie Tech  Value to team  Screenshots of Database  What we learned  Key Take-Aways

Project Sponsors Emily Watson (Archway Professional, Colquitt County Services) and Ken Strickland (Vice President for Administration Services, Moultrie Technical College) provided professional advice on any questions or information we needed throughout the project.

 Constructed in 1964 ◦ As Moultrie Area Vocational-Technical School ◦ Renamed: November 20, 2000  Unit of Georgia Dept. of Technical and Adult Education ◦ Staff: 140+ full-time 110 part-time ◦ Enrollment:  Serves: Colquitt, Tift, Turner, and Worth counties  Strives to promote:  Individual student development  Improve quality of life in communities they serve

 Moultrie Technical College currently uses Excel to manage their physical assets. With five campuses within a four county region, it has become difficult to effectively track their assets from a single set of spreadsheets.  This has created the need for a unified, globally accessible database-driven system. A feature that Moultrie has allocated is to facilitate an internal transfer or a location change, with an approval process.

 We compiled the current spreadsheets into a single user-friendly database called Microsoft Access. ◦ Also provided is a search and update capability to more efficiently manage and track inventory across campuses. ◦ Current inventory of Moultrie Technical College:  Furniture items  Campus locations  Department inventory  Asset management data  Vehicle Inventory

Duplicates Missing Data

 Creation of a database  Narrowed scope- 534 Excel cells  Scheduling  Data itself ◦ Organization of data ◦ Duplicates

 A relational database management system.  Provides: ◦ Fluent user interface. ◦ Easy tracking of information. ◦ Ability to collect and update form information directly from the source. ◦ Accessibility to and use of information from multiple sources. ◦ Easy to learn its use and manage. ◦ Availability of product support.  Overview video Overview video

Our database provides:  Easy access for various departments in each of their campuses  Enhanced security by implementing a user/password function  Streamlined information  Activity control  Ability to update information in a timely manner  Improved historical perspective  Augmented productivity  Consolidation of data

 Experience with working on a project with deliverables, milestones, and an actual client.  Enhanced team-building skills.  Experience with what it is like to work for an actual business or company.  How to create a system that effectively stores and organizes data for the Moultrie Technical College and what it requires to sustain their system.  Learned valuable and applicable skills for everyday business problems and became more familiar with client interaction and database design and implementation.  Additional experience with Microsoft Access, building databases and developing query statements.

 How to use forms in Microsoft Access instead of using SQL  Project management  Data analysis ◦ Reconstruction  Compiling large amounts of data  Introducing clients to new technologies ◦ 2007 Microsoft Access

 Problem: Moultrie Technical College had multiple spreadsheets of their campus inventory.  Solution: Development of a unified, globally accessible Microsoft Access database.  Value to Moultrie Technical College: ◦ Easy access for various departments in each of their campuses ◦ Enhanced security by implementing a user/password function ◦ Streamlined information ◦ Activity control  Multiple values to the team.
