Chapter Overview 10 March 2011 North Star Chapter Professor Jones was born in West Virginia and received his BSEE from West Virginia University in 1955, his Diploma of the Imperial College (DIC) from the University of London in 1956, and his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois in He served on the faculty at the University of Illinois from 1962 until 1966, when he joined Iowa State University as an Assistant Professor. He was promoted to Professor in 1972, and named a University Professor in He served as Director of Engineering Distance Education from 1986 until 2000, and Associate Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering from 1997 until He retired in 2001 as a University Professor Emeritus. He has industrial service with General Electric, Westinghouse, and the U S Army. He is a Fellow of IEEE (citation: for contributions to engineering education), AAAS, ASEE, and ABET. He was given the 2001 Linton E. Grinter Distinguished Service Award by ABET. Professor Jones was appointed an Adjunct Professor at the University of St Thomas in January 2006 to help with develop and administer the Systems Engineering program. Professor Edwin C. Jones 11
Chapter Overview 10 March 2011 North Star Chapter Tom earned a BA in Economics and a BA in Business Finance in 1984 and his Masters degree in Marketing in 1989, all from the University of St. Thomas. He worked several years as a financial analyst for a property management firm in Minneapolis where he performed financial analysis, managed the fiscal budgeting process. He has also worked for a software development firm in Minneapolis as a financial software consultant. Tom has worked at Andersen Windows in Bayport, Minnesota in the marketing department where he managed the order intake process for all orders coming into Andersen West of the Mississippi. Currently Tom works at 3M in the Customer Contact Center where he manages several customer service teams. Mr. Tom Becker 12
Chapter Overview 10 March 2011 North Star Chapter Bill is an Associate Professor and the Director of Graduate Studies for the Program in Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Minnesota. He received a B.A. in Mathematics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1993 and a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Tech in His research interests include stochastic modeling, revenue management, and inventory theory. Chapter Overview 10 March 2011 North Star Chapter Mike serves as a Program Director in the College of Continuing Education at the University of Minnesota. Mike has responsibility for the colleges project management, business analysis and business process management certificate programs, as well as the non-credit Principles of Systems Engineering course. Mike has an M.Ed. degree in Education from Northern Illinois University. Mr. Mike Amidon 14
