Presentation transcript:

Foundation Stage Reception is the last year of the Foundation Stage, the Foundation Stage being the stage of education for children from three to the end of the Reception year; it prepares children for learning in their future school career

How do we learn? The Foundation Stage Curriculum is based on the recognition that children learn best through play and active learning and that there should be an equal balance of indoor/outdoor activities.

The curriculum is organised into six areas of learning: Personal, Social and Emotional Development Communication, Language & Literacy Problem solving, reasoning and Numeracy Knowledge & Understanding of the World Physical Development Creative Development

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Communication, language and literacy

Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy

Knowledge and understanding of the world

Creative Development

Physical Development

Forest School Forest School uses the outdoor environment to help all children learn. Children are encouraged to develop independence skills, improve their decision making, and raise their self esteem through small achievable tasks.

Monitoring Progress Each of the 6 areas of learning has its own set of Early Learning Goals which determine what most children are expected to achieve by the end of the Reception Year. Parents will receive information in the Summer term on their child’s progress towards the goals

The first few weeks We will find out what the children already know & can do & use this information to help us develop an individual learning programme for each child. You will be invited to discuss your child’s progress and adjustment to school within the first term.

Role of parents We recognise the importance of parents and school working together. We would value any contributions you would like to make in helping us get to know your child’s needs.

So… As in Nursery, a very active year with plenty of play based activities to support the needs of your child. You are welcome to come in and help; you will be invited during the year to see new learning and I am always available to discuss any issues that arise during the year. And finally… we are all looking forward to getting to know your child and your family at such an exciting time!
