Volunteer Training

What happens when I get there? Check-in at Headquarters Booth (US Bank Plaza on Broadway between 2 nd and 3 rd Ave.) prior to your shift starting – 1 st Shift is 11:30-2:15 pm – 2 nd Shift is 2:00-5:00 pm You will then receive your location & packet 1 st shifters will pick up a reflective vest, – Give your vest to 2 nd shifter taking over your intersection When you get to your intersection – – 1 st shift pull barricades into the correct location on the street (2 nd shift at the end of the event pull the barricade back to the corner off of the street)

How Do I Direct Traffic and Participants? Hold you arm straight out and hand up – and say stop Make eye contact with all drivers Talk with drivers so they know what is happening Stop participants on the route Wave the driver through

Some intersections will have traffic signals – follow the signals from the lights –Might be 4 way flashing or on usual red, yellow, green signal –Will also receive handheld stop signs at some locations What if someone needs to drive on the route to get home? –Safely direct them into their driveway –These should be the only cars on the route

Things to Bring With You….

Please Remember to… Wear your vest at all times Don’t talk on your cellphone unless you are calling the volunteer leader or in case of an emergency Do not text Communicate with your partner, drivers, and participants Get familiar with the map and event (you will receive a brochure) Never leave your intersection without someone else covering Keep your corner clean (we will distribute garbage bags to volunteer leaders)

Other things… There will be a Streets Alive volunteer on a bike distributing water to volunteers Look at the map for the closest restrooms Weather Announcements – Look for them on Facebook, Radio, messages
