TEACHER’S NOTES : CHILDHOOD TOYS Michael Jackson EXERCISE 1 Adjectives are describing words. The words in bold are adjectives in the sentences below. Discuss or look up the meaning of these words. Then write your own sentences using these words. “If collectors want rare or popular statuettes and action figures, they are usually prepared to pay more for the original, pristine packaging.” While many old toys will bring back sentimental and nostalgic memories of your childhood, others could provide a welcome additional surprise. It is rare to go to a beach that is pristine and not crowded. The song Billie Jean by Michael Jackson brings nostalgic memories of my teenage years.

TEACHER’S NOTES : CHILDHOOD TOYS Michael Jackson Collectors recommend that modern toys should be in “mint in-box” condition if they are to sell for a good price. Hornby started making trains in the 1920s and the painstakingly hand-painted models represented the heyday of steam locomotion. Old train sets are extremely collectable and are always in high demand. Before you discard more modern and up-to-date toys, do look out for what is currently in vogue. I have a collection of toy dolls, with several in ‘mint in-box’ condition. My mother painstakingly glued the broken porcelain pieces back onto the vase that my cat had knocked down. The collectable items that I own are records of the Beatles, Star Wars action figures and porcelain dolls. My sister wants to be a model; so she likes to dress in modern clothes and follow everything from accessories to shoes and hairstyles that are in vogue.
