Grades The grading system is based on individual student academic performance. The scale ranges from 1 through 4 and are suited to better understand your student’s academic needs. The scale is as follows: 4 – Exceeding Common Core Standards 3 – Meets Common Core Standards 2 – Approaching Common Core Standards 1 – Not Meeting Common Core Standards

Possible Field Trips * Water Treatment Plant – October or November * BizTown in April We need a lot of volunteers for the BizTown field trip. Please fill out a Volunteer Packet to be a chaperone. Packets are found at Santeesd.net or in the office.

Homework MONDAYS – THURSDAYS * Students will be assigned homework nearly every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday -- Math almost every day -- Reading = at least 30 minutes every night and students need to keep up A.R. goals -- Spelling = a new list and activity sheet almost every week (sometimes we do something else) -- Writing once in a while, probably finishing something we started in class -- Science and Social Studies once in a while, depending on the subject -- DreamBox on computer … some every day, if you have Internet connection * Please check your child’s work and initial their Planner every night. * Students who do their homework are rewarded each month with raffle coupons. * Students may get a Homework Pass to skip one assignment on a particular night. * Getting books with audio CD at the public library or download books on your Kindle can help students raise their AR reading level.

Absences  Work is to be turned in as soon as possible. Late work accepted until a week after the student comes back.  Missed work will be available on or before absence. Please pick it up for your child so he or she can stay current with the class, have them ask me to give it to them before they leave, or have a classmate bring it to them.  Students should stay up with their work, so they ’ ll be ready for any tests when they return.  Of course, there will always be exceptions
