Mrs. Anady’s 4th Grade Class! Welcome to Mrs. Anady’s 4th Grade Class!

Meet the Teacher I am Mrs. Anady and I have been teaching for 10 years and 4 years at SJVA. I am married and have 4 children who attend SJVA. I enjoy traveling, trying different ethnic foods, camping, cooking, exercising and being with my church family. I love teaching! It is awesome to be in a profession that brings so much joy!

What should you know about SJVA? SJVA is an inquiry based charter school. What does that mean to you? Your child will be asked to complete several inquiry based projects this year. Also, many of our classroom tasks will have a focus on inquiry and research. Our school requires parent involvement… Yet we understand that parents are busy, and there are several options for ways you can meet this requirement. Some examples include: Take home projects such as cutting our classroom materials, participating in school events like field trips, help in the classroom, etc.

My Goals To give your child the academic and social skills he/she needs to progress to 5th grade. To provide a supportive and fun classroom environment. Help students to be self sufficient active participants and take ownership in his/her own education.

General Classroom Rules Be Respectful Be Responsible Be Kind Be Willing to Make Mistakes We discuss these rules throughout the week! However, we have specific rules we focus on as well.

Classroom Rules Rule 1- Follow Directions Quickly Rule 2- Raise your hand for permission to speak Rule 3- Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat. Rule 4- Make smart choices Rule 5- Make your dear teacher happy!

Classroom Pledge We, Mrs. Anady’s class, promise today to do our best. We promise to listen to each other and respect each other. We promise to keep our classroom clean and organized. We promise to read, write, listen, think and speak with rigor. We promise to participate and have fun in all we do. We promise to tell the truth and take responsibility for our actions. I promise to believe in myself, never give up, and be the best person I can be!

Spelling and Reading are due on Friday. Occasionally, your child will have: Science research projects Social Studies research or papers Also any work that is missed due to absence will be completed as homework when the student returns.

Class Dojo Class Dojo is my interactive behavior management system. Students can earn positive or negative points based on behavior. Parents may login onto classdojo.com to see their child’s daily behavior. Students will keep track of points in a daily Dojo Tracker. Students may “buy” rewards with points earned.

Engrade Engrade is my online grade book. I will keep track of all student scores through this program. Parents will be able to login to see their child’s scores on assignments, missing assignments, test scores etc. Go to Engrade.com (login coming soon)

Grading Scale and Standards We grade on a 4 point scale 4- Advanced 95%-100% 3 Proficient 80%-94.9% 2 Basic 65%-79.9% 1 Below Basic 0%-64.9% We use the California State Standards

Absences If your child is absent, please make every effort to pick up an independent study in the office. I may be able to set up work that is more closely aligned to missed class work if you let me know 24 hours in advance.

Absent Work When your child is absent, an absence folder will be placed on your child’s desk. All work placed in folder will need to be completed for homework. If the child has extra time in class when they return, he/she may complete the missing work in class.

Supplies We always need Ticonderoga pencils! Clorox Wipes Items for Prize Box Candy for jar I received a lot of supplies at the beginning of the year! Thank you for your donations! I will let you Know when more is needed!

Birthdays Students may bring in treats for the class for their birthday. There are currently 35 students in my class! The treats must be store bought. Students get to go to the prize box on their birthday!

Volunteering At School Remember… Reading buddy Copy prep Small groups Parents must be fingerprinted and TB tested in order to volunteer in the class and on field trips. If you can’t volunteer, I may have at-home projects that you may help with. At School Remember… Reading buddy Copy prep Small groups Classroom parties Field Trips PTSA always needs volunteers too!

How can parents help? Please help your child with their homework! I am trying to send quality work over quantity. Less is more because I know many families are busy with afterschool activities which are important! Help by checking your child’s planner, Engrade, and Class Dojo. You can help keep them accountable in all of these areas.

Remind.com Remind.com is a texting tool for myself to get reminders to parents via text. It is very helpful for you to sign up because I send out many reminders throughout the week. You will only receive texts from me. If you did not sign up, send me a note and I will send instructions.
