OUTREACH & INFLUENCE WE WILL: Disseminate Engage Interact Identify Provide

CREATING LEADERS IN THE INDUSTRY LOCAL LEVEL - Association/Board STATE LEVEL - State Association/Board NATIONAL LEVEL - National Association of REALTORS ®

STATE LEVEL Volunteer to serve on a committee Participate in Leadership Academy to Develop: - Knowledge to influencing policy and the law - REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) - Public Speaking Skills - Qualities of a Leader Understanding Financial and - Legal matters.

NATIONAL LEVEL COMMITTEE APPOINTMENT PROCESS - QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE - RECOMMENDATIONS

2010 Committee Recommendations Deadline Deadline to submit 2010 nominations and recommendations May 26, 2009 Nominations and recommendations must be submitted via the Online Committee Recommendation Database You should nominate yourself, and secure recommendations from others

Your Profile at REALTOR.org You MUST complete your profile in order to be considered for an NAR committee appointment Highlight your interests and experience

NAR Expertise Profiles  Pivotal step to getting appointed to anything  The “Living Resume”  Should be updated periodically with photo  Provides concise details of accomplishments  Matches your passions and experience with your committee requests  Demonstrate depth and breadth if possible  Provide link to your profile when requesting others for endorsements or recommendations

Get Recommended Why you are well-suited to the position Quality outweighs quantity Get recommendations from current and past leadership at all levels

Which Committees Have More Prerequisites for Appointment ? Policy-Approving Committees (e.g. Executive, Finance, Strategic Planning, MLS, Professional Standards, etc.) Smaller committees with fewer available positions each term (Legal Action, etc.) Committees with specific qualifications needed (e.g. RPIC, RPAC, Issues Mobilization, etc.)

Tricks of the Trade Tips for Successful Committee Recommendations Don't use your 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd choices for competitive committees only; this decreases your chances of appointment Seek “Quality Endorsements” from leadership you trust and have worked with Talk to your State AE about your committee interests; he/she can “go to bat” for you

MORE TRICKS OF THE TRADE Make your Expertise Profile as detailed as possible Be open to possibilities or opportunities you may not have been seeking Remember: A recommendation is a request, not a reservation. Appointments are not guaranteed.

GETTING INVOLVED OPENS DOORS!!! “ARE YOU READY” Thank you for your attention and I hope you found this section of our Presentation to be informative and you are ready to take action
