HIV / STD Among the three modes of transmission of HIV viz. Blood borne, Vertical and Sexual, SEXUAL TRANSMISSION accounts for the most HIV infection in the world.

HIV / STD The concentration of HIV in genital tract secretion from both males and females is increased at times when Sexual transmission is thought to be enhanced. One of the most important cofactor for HIV transmission being inflammation of genital tract.

HIV / AIDS Transmission of Sexually acquired HIV described as R = B x D x C R-> No. of Secondary infection from a given infection. B->The mean efficiency of Transmission. D->Duration of Infectiousness. C->The mean partner change rate.

HIV / AIDS All tools needed for HIV prevention have already been developed for prevention of STD, but not properly deployed, like : -Behavior change -Having lesser number of partners. -Safe sex practices (Usage of Condoms etc.) especially CSW’s. -Early detection and therapy.

HIV / STD Treatment of STD’s has proven a successful HIV intervention Several biological studies have demonstrated that STD’s >> the shedding of HIV in both male and female genital secretions Treatment of STD’s << the shedding of HIV. STD’s probably << mucosal resistance to HIV.
