Presentation transcript:

Sexual harassment is against the law and it is your right to insist that it will stop.

Sex Discrimination Act (1984) “Sexual Harassment is an unwelcome sexual advance, unwelcome request for sexual favours or other unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature which makes a person feel offended, humiliated or intimidated”

…“makes a person feel offended, humiliated or intimidated” Specifically, what behaviours could make a person feel like this?

“People have the right to be treated equally and fairly and are entitled to do their work free from hostility, harassment and unwanted attention or interference because of who or what they are” Fair enough?

What steps should we take to ensure that harassment (of any kind) is not taking place in our workplace?

What “assertive message” could you communicate if: A workmate constantly makes comments to you with sexual overtones? Someone is treating you unfairly about your work because you previously declined a request for a date? There are obscene pictures in your workplace that make you feel embarrassed?

Sexual Harassment Is: Offensive Behaviour of a sexual nature Unwelcome Unsolicited Unreciprocated

AND… It’s against the law!
