Overview of Programing in MPS Advanced Placement (AP) Concurrent Enrollment / College in the Schools (CIS) Post Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO)

Advanced Placement Program(AP) Seven courses currently offered with students testing in nine subjects Biology, US History, American Government, European History, Statistics, Calculus, Language and Composition Students also test in Computer Science and on occasion will test in another area Students take a national exam on a specific date Students receive a score of 1-5 in early July with a score of 3 being required at most universities and college for the acceptance of credit.

Advanced Placement Program(AP) Cost to District – District must provide a proctor for the tests. Cost to Student/Parent - $51 per exam, unless the student qualifies for free and reduced lunch in which the exam fee is waived. Credits Earned – depends on what institution the student is using the credits at. Generally AP courses transfer in as freshman general course credits (3 credits)

Concurrent Enrollment / College In the Schools (CIS) Students are concurrently enrolled within MHS and MA-TEC and the university or college Eight courses currently offered within MPS Two at MA-TEC – Certified Nursing Assistant Program and Welding Six at MHS – English Composition (4 credits), Chemistry I (4 credits), Chemistry II (4 credits), Speech/Communications (3 credits), Computer Science (3 credits), Career Internship (2 credits) Currently working with SMSU, MN West, and Minnesota State Technical and Community College (MNSTC). We have also previously worked with the U of M Twin Cities. Attempted to offer 2 additional courses in 2015 – 2016 but chose not offer the course due to low enrollment

Concurrent Enrollment / College In the Schools (CIS) Students earn credit for the work they produce throughout the semester vs. performance on a single day test. Available to students in grades 11 and 12 Students have the ability to earn up to 20 credits through this track Rapidly expanding programs in high schools throughout MN Nearly 60,000 students in over 300 districts in MN in 14-15

Concurrent Enrollment / College In the Schools (CIS) Cost to District – District pays tuition, actual cost depends on: Number of students enrolled in a particular course as some of the schools utilize a sliding fee scale Number of participants state wide affecting state reimbursement State pro-rates reimbursement back to the districts. State set aside is $1.5 million per year regardless of number of participants. Current reimbursement rate is at 17% Cost per credit over the years (after state reimbursement) has ranged from $37 (08-09 SY) per credit to $75 per credit (13-14 SY) Cost to Student/Parent – no cost to students or parents

Grade appears on both high school and college transcripts MASSP – major legislative push of our state organization to push for full funding of this program Current trends show concurrent enrollment programs are on the rise. If these were fully funded there would undoubtedly be a large increase in the program offerings within high schools around the state. Teacher approval process – in order for concurrent enrolment programs to be offered secondary level teachers of the programs have to go through a program approval process at the university and/or college level.

Post Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) A program that allows high school students to earn college credit while still in high school through enrollment and successful completion of college-level courses. With traditional PSEO, these courses are generally offered on the campus of the postsecondary institution. Available to students in grades 11 and 12 Starting in th grade students can take 1 course in a CTE course provided that they scored a “meet” or “exceed” score on the 8 th grade MCA reading test.

Post Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) Cost to the District – MPS and SMSU have a contractual agreement in place at a rate of $209 per credit Available to students in grades 11 and 12 Starting in th grade students can take 1 course in a CTE course provided that they scored a “meet” or “exceed” score on the 8 th grade MCA reading test. Eligibility of courses is established by the university Eligibility of enrollment is also established by the university but as a rule of thumb 11 th grade students must rank in the top third of their class and 12 th grade students must rank in the top half of their class

Summary Information 3 “pathways” currently exist for MPS students No one “right” path for all students We believe that a diversified approach is important in exposing students to college readiness Programming is reflected as to what students pursuits are (in-state vs. out of state, public vs. private, regional vs. national)

Summary Information Our goal is to expose as many students as possible to rigorous and challenging programing. We feel that we are working towards this for all students in the following ways: Ramp Up to Readiness Peer to peer discussions through our NHS and Link Crew leaders talking to 9 th and 10 th grade students in Ramp Up about the importance of taking rigorous classes while in high school
