Presentation transcript:

Introducing: KODAK Capture Pro Software v2.0 General comments: This presentation is intended to help in selling Capture Pro software as a key part of a capture solution. It focuses largely on what is new in Capture Pro 2.0 and does not attempt to cover all the features available in the product. Four themes are prevalent: productivity, ease of use, value, and Kodak as a single source for capture solutions. These have been consistently used in the version 2.0 launch materials. You will find that not all slides fit all situations. For example, when pitching to a new customer who is unfamiliar with the previous version of Capture Pro, it would not make sense to use the slides that describe the challenges that were not met in previous versions of the product (ex, slide 12). However, these slides may be very useful in trying to persuade existing customers to upgrade to Capture Pro 2.0. As always, you will choose, mix and match the slides that will work best for your particular situation. I have added notes where I think they may be useful; not all slides have notes. Refer to them if they are helpful to you. There are quite a few animations in this presentation, some require mouse clicks and some start automatically; it’s a good idea to practice with the slides to get familiar with what happens next. For some background on discussing the new features, review the recorded Webex video overview of Capture Pro 2.0 that is available on eCampus or on kodak.com/go/captureprosalesinfo. 13 July, 2009

Agenda Capture Software: How it fits in the solution Why Kodak? 4-part value proposition Situation summary Product Overview What’s new in 2.0? Software: How it fits – the user’s perspective E Files Images B&W Color Grayscale Data Name Address Account # OCR Software Image Processing Output Format Batches Indexing Data Extraction EMC Documentum Microsoft SharePoint EMail … User’s have lots of document sources: scanners, MFP’s, paper, electronic files. On the other hand they have lots of systems and output choices. In the middle is software, which they count on to do the “magic” of processing the images, extracting data, using data to index the images, formatting the batches, and finally outputting documents and batches to all the back end systems and destinations. Software turns the bits and pieces into a real solution. It molds the parts and pieces into a solution… Copyright Eastman Kodak Company 2009, Kodak is a trademark

Kodak’s 4-part value proposition Productivity Ease of Use Capture Pro Software Value One Source Kodak’s software offers value along 4 key attribute areas: productivity, ease of use, value and the unique position of being a single source for capture solutions: scanners, software, packaged solutions, and service (both for Kodak products and others). As we talk about Capture Pro SW, you’ll see that everything we talk about will reflect one of these key attributes. Copyright Eastman Kodak Company 2009, Kodak is a trademark

The user’s situation Need: Paper and electronic documents need to be turned into usable information to support business processes Problems: Insufficient indexing productivity Distributed and diverse document/image sources Inadequate capture productivity, eg, manual data entry Limited connectivity to systems Everything costs Introducing: Kodak Capture Pro Software v 2.0: flexible, powerful, designed for enhanced productivity, optimized for value Copyright Eastman Kodak Company 2009, Kodak is a trademark

What’s New in v 2.0? Improved Indexing Productivity Database Lookup Auto Import Automatically import existing image; process like scanned images Improved Capture Productivity Rescan with scanner enabled More and improved Connectivity All supported file types available for system output destinations New scanner support Kodak i1120 Scanmate While Capture Pro SW already has a rich legacy of delivering productivity and value, Version 2.0 has features specifically intended to address some of the issues described on the previous slide. Database lookup automatically populates indexing fields with data from ODBC compliant sources. Auto import automatically pulls in existing images and processes them like scanned images. Rescan/rotate with scanner enabled improves workflow by reducing stops and starts. New capabilities make it easier to connect to system output destinations. And we now support the full line of Kodak scanners. Copyright Eastman Kodak Company 2009, Kodak is a trademark

User Benefit: Ease of Use Intuitive graphical interface Easy to learn, navigate, and customize Looks and acts the same on all scanners – Kodak and non-Kodak 15 languages supported Reduces training time Copyright Eastman Kodak Company 2009, Kodak is a trademark

User Benefit: Ease of Use “Out of the box” operation Pre-set ‘ready to scan’ job setups One-button scanning options Job shortcuts – select from system tray for easy ad hoc scanning and access to repetitive jobs The animation illustrates how easy it is to start scanning using job shortcuts from the system tray. Copyright Eastman Kodak Company 2009, Kodak is a trademark

User Benefit: Ease of Use Compatible with non-Kodak scanners Supports over 160 popular models from other manufacturers Looks and acts the same on all scanners Ideal for mixed scanner environments Copyright Eastman Kodak Company 2009, Kodak is a trademark

User Benefit: Ease of Use User help Narrated interactive tutorials On-line help in 15 languages NEW - PDF User’s Guide (First release English only) Getting Started Guide (.pdf - 15 languages) Copyright Eastman Kodak Company 2009, Kodak is a trademark

User Benefit: Productivity Powerful, flexible indexing 999 indexing fields Zonal OCR/MICR 1-D, 2-D barcodes Drag and drop OCR Index field drop- down list Much more Capture Pro offers many advanced indexing features. Copyright Eastman Kodak Company 2009, Kodak is a trademark

Indexing Productivity – Remaining Challenges Challenges that remain today: Manual data entry Labor intensive Slow Costly Data integrity Data may be invalid Data may be appear to be valid but does contain errors E.g. Account Number 12345 exists but should have been captured as 12354 However, there are some challenges that have affected indexing productivity in previous versions of Capture Pro that have not been addressed until now. Copyright Eastman Kodak Company 2009, Kodak is a trademark

User Benefit: Productivity NEW - Database Lookup Improves indexing productivity and accuracy Validate captured index field is correct Look up a value to populate other index fields Support ODBC-compliant data sources 123456 ? 123456 John Doe 7 State Ave. With DBL, you can use the data in one index field to look up other data from an existing ODBC compliant data source and automatically populate additional index fields, saving time and manual keystrokes. DBL can occur at several points throughout the workflow process. Copyright Eastman Kodak Company 2009, Kodak is a trademark

User Benefit: Productivity Database Lookup Wizard Name your lookup and define the data source Define the actions for the lookup Choose options Quickly test to see if the lookup works as intended Enter a specific value or just display the first 25 records Although DBL is a very sophisticated function, we have made it easy to set up using a Database Lookup Wizard. View results and the setup is done! View in presentation mode to see all dialog windows Copyright Eastman Kodak Company 2009, Kodak is a trademark

User Benefit: Productivity Database Lookup can be done: During scanning In indexing mode When editing “Index input field” data When navigating to next/previous/next invalid Opening an existing batch Outputting the batch The key is that it is flexible enough that you can set it up to meet your exact workflow needs. Copyright Eastman Kodak Company 2009, Kodak is a trademark

User Benefit: Productivity Database Lookup at work If for some reason the lookup returns more than one result, the user can make a choice from a list If the lookup returns no result, the user gets an error message Copyright Eastman Kodak Company 2009, Kodak is a trademark

User Benefit: Productivity Dual stream scanning Produce color and bitonal or greyscale and bitonal images from single scan Use bitonal image for easy OCR or barcode reading, and retain full color image for archiving Choose output destination and format for each stream This is true dual stream support, not color image interpolated. Copyright Eastman Kodak Company 2009, Kodak is a trademark

User Benefit: Productivity Advanced image processing Image merge and split Rotate, crop, rescan More… Example: Cropping Scan documents Draw a zone Apply to all documents Crop all documents Illustration shows one example of easily cropping all the documents in a batch by selecting a zone in one document, applying it to all the documents, then cropping them all at once. Copyright Eastman Kodak Company 2009, Kodak is a trademark

User Benefit: Productivity Many automated functions for high productivity Batch and document separation Blank page detection and removal Background batch processing Image merge and split Automatic rotation and reorientation Automatic image reordering Much more… Batch/document separation – many different options for doing this – bar code, patch code, OCR, page count… Blank detection – also several options, such as image content, image size Background batch processing allows scanning to continue uninterrupted Merge and split to meet the needs of specific applications Automatic rotation and reorientation reduce scan and prep time Copyright Eastman Kodak Company 2009, Kodak is a trademark

Capture Productivity – Remaining Challenges Challenges that remain today: Rescan and rotate require a scanner stop-and-start This is an opportunity for efficiency improvement During scanning In the current product, these functions cannot be performed when the scanner is enabled (grayed out); meaning the scanner must be stopped and restarted. When scanner is not running Copyright Eastman Kodak Company 2009, Kodak is a trademark

User Benefit: Productivity NEW - Rescan / Rotate with Scanner Enabled Rescanning with the scanner enabled allows the user to keep the scanner enabled, select image(s) and rescan / rotate these images with minimal key strokes When rescanning with the scanner in enabled state, additional images will be added to the end of the current document until the next document separation Current operation: scanner is stopped when the images are selected and rescanned, any additional images scanned will be discarded. This functionality will be unaltered when scanner is not enabled. Copyright Eastman Kodak Company 2009, Kodak is a trademark

Capture Versatility – Some Challenges Today, we provide support for Nearly all current Kodak document scanners Several legacy Kodak document scanners Many non-Kodak document scanners Manual import of images that have already been captured / created Challenges that remain today How to deal with ongoing import of images As part of a distributed ad hoc capture application Captured with devices that may not be directly supported such as Kodak ScanStation, MFDs, large format scanners, etc. Copyright Eastman Kodak Company 2009, Kodak is a trademark

User Benefit: Productivity and Capture Versatility NEW – Auto Import Allows fully automated import into Kodak Capture Pro Software without using a scanner Available for Groups E through G licenses only at v2.0 launch Separate Auto Import module is anticipated in future Auto Import works with image files such as tif, jpeg, bmp. It does not currently support pdf. Copyright Eastman Kodak Company 2009, Kodak is a trademark

User Benefit: Productivity Auto Import: How does it work? One or more "hot folders" will be configured as shared folders on a local area network Each hot folder is associated with a specific auto import job setup Upon completion of the import, batch(es) are handled similarly to any other batch that was created locally with a scanner Copyright Eastman Kodak Company 2009, Kodak is a trademark

User Benefit: Productivity Auto Import: What does it do? Performs the following functions: Automated indexing using Barcode recognition Automated indexing using zonal OCR / MICR Automated Batch and Document separation Automated removal of blank pages Page splitting as defined in Auto Import Page Setup Differences between Auto Import and scanning: No interruption when indexing errors occur No differentiation between front and back images  Copyright Eastman Kodak Company 2009, Kodak is a trademark

User Benefit: Productivity More and Improved Connectivity: Kodak offers many different System Output destinations Developed by Kodak and by ISVs More are being added Each System Output has its own settings Copyright Eastman Kodak Company 2009, Kodak is a trademark

Connectivity – Remaining Challenges Challenges that remain today When destination is file output, TIFF, JPEG and various PDF formats are available The same choice of file types is not readily available for each system output destination May require custom development to add file types When scanning in dual stream, both streams of images are always part of the output Customers have no easy way to determine if newer system output options are available ISVs / integrators who develop their own system connectivity need to wait for a next release to get their connector included Copyright Eastman Kodak Company 2009, Kodak is a trademark

User Benefit: Productivity Improved Connectivity NEW – Add System Output file type options Provide users the option to choose any supported file type when outputting images that use a System Output destination B & W - PDF, PDF/A, PDF-MRC, PDF/A&PDF-MRC, Searchable PDF, TIFF Color/Grayscale - JPEG, JPEG 2000, PDF, PDF/A, PDF-MRC, PDF/A&PDF-MRC, Searchable PDF and TIFF Naming Options will provide users the ability to use defined values (Station ID, batch name, date, etc) to build output destination paths and file names API will be updated to enable the new functionality Existing user developed System Outputs shall continue to function as before Note: does not imply all existing System Outputs will be changed Copyright Eastman Kodak Company 2009, Kodak is a trademark

Improving Connectivity NEW – Invoke System Output By File Type Decide which of the input streams (Black & White, Color/Grey or Both) will be used to generate system output Same as for File(1) and File(2) options

User Benefit: Productivity Improved Connectivity NEW – Display list of ISV integrations with weblink On output tab in Job Setup Provides link to Kodak website where latest available integrations are listed with links to ISV page where System Output may be downloaded for use with Kodak Capture Pro Software ISV So users will always be able to find the latest System Outputs and our ISV partners will be more satisfied because they won’t have to wait for a new release of Capture Pro to make their System Outputs available to customers.
