DAP egb 4 Description  Students in LISD may earn a Distinguished Achievement Seal to be affixed to his/her transcript by completing the state’s DAP requirements  Students must meet course requirements set by the state and earn four advanced measures Contact any of the DAP District Committee members. DAP egb 7 Advanced Measures  Test Data  College Courses  Original Research/Project LISD publishes a Curriculum Bulletin every spring that explains all the graduation programs and requirements. FOR MORE INFO...

DAP egb 8 Test Data  A score on the PSAT that qualifies him/her for recognition as a Commended Scholar or higher by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation  A score on the PSAT that qualifies him/her for recognition as a National Hispanic Scholar Program of the College Board  A score on the PSAT that qualifies him/her for recognition as an Outstanding Negro Student of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation  A score of 3 or higher on any AP Exam LISD counselors are responsible for disseminating information about SAT and ACT tests. DAP egb 9 College Courses  Concurrent Enrollment – Students attend a college/university while still in high school  Dual Credit Program – Students register for a college class and receive credit for graduation requirements from high school  Tech Prep Program - Students take a high school course that is articulated with the Tech Prep Program

DAP egb 10 Concurrent Enrollment  Students must be eligible to take college courses – With new TAKS requirements, these are still pending – meet college entrance requirements (THEA, SAT, ACT, required GPA) – be enrolled in a minimum of two (2) courses per semester for high school credit if enrolled in fall or spring semester

DAP egb 11 Concurrent Enrollment (cont’d)  Students may earn up to four (4) measures – Must receive a grade of B or better in each course – May enroll as early as the summer after the junior year (exit level TAKS) – Should be prepared to pay for tuition and books and have transportation – May take as many college courses as desired but only 4 will count as measures

DAP egb 12 Dual Credit Program  Dual Credit Program allows a high school student to take courses at a college/university and receive high school credit for the course IF STUDENT RECEIVES A GRADE OF C OR BETTER.  IF a student receives a grade of B or better on a dual credit course, the student will EARN AN ADVANCED MEASURE.

DAP egb 14 Tech Prep Program  Students earn up to four (4) measures by scoring a grade of B or better – The course must be articulated with LCC or other receiving institution – Student must be following a coherent Tech Prep Articulated Plan  Articulated classes Accounting BCIS Word Processing Applications Health Science Technology II* (only counts as one measure) International Business Keyboarding Marketing Dynamics FOR MORE COURSES... DAP egb 15 Original Research/Project  Students may earn one advanced measure per original research/project. – Maximum of 2 projects  Students must sign up for a TEKS approved course – Principals at each campus may allow exceptions  Students must follow Original Research/Project District Guide – A mentor will be assigned to each student during the duration of the project  Students must present product or performance to an outside panel of judges. – DAP District Committee will make the arrangements for all presentations.

DAP egb 16 Student A  Test Data – AP Score of 5 Spanish Language* – AP Score of 4 Spanish Literature*  Articulated Courses/College Credit – Keyboarding* – BCIS* – Accounting *only 4 measures are needed but students may take additional courses

DAP egb 17 Student B  Test Data – AP Score of 4 English Language – AP Score of 3 Calculus  College Credit/Concurrent Enrollment – Psychology with grade of A  Independent Study/Research Project

DAP egb 18 Student C  Test Data – National Hispanic Scholar* – AP Score of 3 English Language* – AP Score of 3 English Literature* – AP Score of 4 Government* – AP Score of 5 Calculus * Only need 4 measures but may obtain many more

DAP egb 19 A Success Story   Only one school had DAP scholars. 11 students at Cigarroa were able to achieve the four advanced measures   All three high schools had DAP scholars  26 CHS, 15 MHS, and 6 NHS (Total 47)  430% increase in DAP scholars

DAP egb 20 A Continued Success Story 1999 – 2000*  CHS – 38 DAP scholars  MHS – 40 DAP scholars  NHS – 37 DAP scholars (Total 115) *as of August 2000 – 2001* DAP scholars - 70 CHS, 83 MHS, and 48 NHS (Total 201) 2001 – 2002 DAP scholars – 50 CHS, 64 MHS and 61 NHS
