UNDERSTANDING THE STOCK MARKET  Confident business owners encouraged people to invest in the stock market  Stock Exchange: organized system for buying and selling shares in corporations  When investors lacked money to buy stocks, they bought on margin meaning they paid only a fraction of the price and borrowed the rest.  They would pay for the full value out of their later profits.
