Scenario 1: Suppose you are interested in buying a gas station near Interstate 40 in Old Town, New Mexico. One of your requirements is that it must be within 1,000 feet of the interstate so you can attract as many drivers as possible. Question 1 : a.How many gas stations were selected? b.What are the names of the selected gas stations? or look in the attribute table. Unfortunately, neither of these two gas stations is for sale. You would like to make a tempting offer, but first you must know the market potential for each station. Because you want to sell gasoline to business customers and employees as well as freeway travelers on I-40, you decide to find out which gas station is closer to more businesses.

Scenario 2: California Proposition 83 was on the November 2006 election ballot. This initiative passed and prohibits sex offenders from living 2,000 feet from schools. However, a federal judge promptly blocked this provision until its constitutionality is resolved. A summary of the proposition is shown below. The cities of Cotati and Rohnert Park have contracted you to make a map of parcels that would be off limits to sex offenders under Proposition 83. The map should include a 2,000 foot radius around each school. All selected parcels off-limits to sex offenders should be gray and all other parcels should be white (or hollow).

Scenario 3: Assign an administrative name to the Caves based on which administrative area they fall inside.

Scenario 4: A local university is planning to construct a small lab and office building to perform research and extension projects in aquaculture. They've narrowed the location down to a coastal farming area near several small towns. They need to select a site that meets the following requirements: Selection criteria for proposed lab site  Preferred land use is brushland (LU-CODE = 300)  Choose soil types that are suitable for development (SUIT => 2)  Site must lie within 300 meters of existing sewer lines  Site must lie 20 meters beyond existing streams  Site must contain at least 2000 square meters
