Chapter 12, Section 3

Create a flashcard for each of the following terms (found on p.305 in your text book).  Tsunami  Seismic gap If you finish early, study your flashcards!

 If the epicenter of an earthquake is on the ocean floor, it may cause a giant ocean wave or TSUNAMI

1. Which fault was responsible for the San Francisco earthquake? 2. Underwater earthquakes can cause _______ or giant waves.

Earthquake Safety! Scenario: You are responsible for stocking back-packs that will be sold during disaster-preparedness month. Make an annotated list of what items you would include in the backpack. Remember it all has to fit, should be good for 1-2 people for 2-3 days. Your list should have at LEAST 10 items. Example: 1) 2 Liters of water. Drinking water would be necessary in case tap water is unsafe to drink after a large earthquake. 2) 6 cans of food. Stores may be damaged or closed, canned food will provide nutrition. 3) First Aid kit. Useful incase of minor injuries. 4)….what else can you think of?
