KM TRADING Production in KM Trading

1.Would you be able to make a fire without matches or a lighter? If you could succeed, how would you go about it? Do you have any knowledge of how many people in the world need to make fire directly from nature like this? 2.What kind of heating do you use at home? Do you have experiences with other kinds of heating systems? What are they? Which one do you prefer? Why? 3.Have you ever considered how heating systems are produced? Do you have any knowledge about what kind of technology is used in the production of stoves used for heating? 4.Would you be interested in visiting a manufacturer of heating systems? Would you be interested in working in such a company? Exercise 1

1.KM Trading employed only family members when the company was established. 2.The number of employees has risen from 5 to Exact bending of the metal parts makes welding easier. 4.The purpose of shotblasting is to make the surface of the metal components less smooth. 5.The bending machine can easily cut your finger off when you aren’t careful. 6.KM Trading produces 2 types of stoves in 9 colour versions. 7.The final quality inspection includes checking whether the stoves were welded properly. Exercise 2 Are these statements TRUE or FALSE?

Listen and fill in the gaps Exercise 3

Match the English expressions with their Czech equivalent Exercise 4

GROUP WORK – TEAMWORK DISCUSS: In small groups, consider the following positions: Manager; Technician; Sales Representative, Accountant. What qualifications do you think employees of the KM Trading Company need to have in these positions in order to be successful there? What skills would employees need to learn ‘on the job’? TEAMWORK: Recall all the steps of stove production mentioned in the video. Compare your answers with another group and check your results by reviewing the video again. Discuss how important it is to be systematic for some kinds of jobs. When is it possible to not be systematic? Make a list of jobs for each. Exercise 5

GROUP WORK – TEAMWORK DESIGN: Before you start, read excerpts of Horace Miner’s ‘Body Ritual Among the Nacirema’. What professional is he describing? Divide into small groups or 3 or 4. Each group will develop a detailed set of instructions describing how to perform a certain activity that everyone already knows about. Each group needs to agree on the activity they will describe but to do so in such a way that is not exactly apparent from the instructions what it is. Come up with your own activity or use one of the following suggestions: e.g. visiting the doctor for a physical examination; ‘going to a spa or a salon; putting together a piece of furniture from Ikea giving instructions how to assemble pieces in a box from a paper saying how to put them together; etc. Read your instructions outloud for the others to guess the activity you tried to describe. Exercise 5

GROUP WORK – TEAMWORK DEBATE: Consider what kinds of heating systems are the most ecological? Which ones are the least ecological? What role do you think manufacturing should play in the production of ecological heating systems? What are some of the limitations for companies in producing ecological products? DESIGN: If you were going to invent a new, ecological heating system, what would it consist of? What steps would you need to take in order to create it – to take it from an idea to a product actually being produced in a manufacturing facility? Exercise 5

Exercise 6 TEST
