9/17/2015 Ed Valenski CPA Certified Business Teacher 2 Overview Course Application: Career and Financial Management, Personal Money Management, Entrepreneurship PC Applications – Excel Objective: Create a table that identifies where and how students spend their time. Analyze the personal use of time Link the use of time with the attainment of goals Create a class benchmark for categories of activities – discuss and analyze variances Prepare a table that plans time according to stated goals and highlights tradeoffs Process Overview: Provide students with or have students create the “Daily Time Sheet” (Attached) – Paper or Excel Provide students with a list of major categories of time – they can add detail beyond the major category but provide some level of macro consistency so that the analysis do not become too detailed (Attached) Week 1 Have students create and plan their next week Week 2 Have students compare actual time usage with their plan and create a new weekly plan (This can done for as many iterations as you see appropriate.) Analyze time spent on various activities against their SMART goals. – Create a charts or charts in Excel Have students prepare an analysis and proposed action steps to align time with goals – Can be done in Word Have students create class benchmarks and compare to peers
