‘ONE LEARNER – ONE ESTATE AGENCY’ YOUTH EMPOWERMENT BRIGADE PROGRAMME

 The intern estate agent will be placed in the service of a registered estate agency under the supervision and control of a suitably qualified mentor for a period of 12 months.  This internship period is intended to equip intern estate agents with the required property market experience while they obtain the necessary real estate qualifications. WHAT IS THE ‘ONE LEARNER – ONE ESTATE AGENCY’ YOUTH EMPOWERMENT BRIGADE PROGRAMME?

The ‘One Learner – One Estate Agency’ Youth Empowerment Brigade Programme will target the youth and previously disadvantaged persons.  It is estimated that approximately intern estate agents will be sourced over a three-year period to take part in the programme.  The programme is available to matriculants, FET (TVET) college graduates, university and university of technology graduates and persons with disability. TARGET GROUPS

 Upon completion of the 12 month internship period and after having been certificated against the NQF Level 4 real estate qualification, intern estate agents will be required to enrol for and pass the Professional Designation Examination (PDE 4);  Intern estate agents having met these requirements can apply for a status upgrade and will have acquired the Professional Practitioner in Real Estate (PPRE);

CURRENT STATUS OF THE PROJECT. Unfunded Mandate: The “One Learner One Estate Agent Initiative” was first introduced at EAAB Summit in October The following learners were recruited by Principals from previously disadvantaged background: October 2013 – December 2013 – 1629 Interns January 2014 – December 2014 – 5996 Interns January 2015 – May Interns

CURRENT STATUS OF THE PROJECT Funded mandate: We have signed contracts with SSETA in respect of placing 906 learners and interns with Host Employers. SSETA have agreed to fund the project at R per learner and Intern over the 12 months period. Funding in broken down as follows: Learner (706 Learners) Stipend to the Learner R Training service provider per learner R Other expenses R2 000.

CURRENT STATUS OF THE PROJECT We currently have placed 751 interns and learners official commencement date (18 th of June 2015): 83% of the learners have signed all the contractual documents as per SSETA requirements: 51 Interns (Target of 200) 700 Learners (Target of 706) 100% Black people (Indians, Coloureds, African) 60% of Black women.

CURRENT STATUS OF THE PROJECT Regional spread of 751 Learners and Interns placed: Gauteng 507 (68%) KZN 125 (18%) Free State 19 ( 3%) Limpopo 12 (2%) Eastern Cape 30 (4%) Western Cape 16 (2%) Mpumalanga 38 (5%) Host Employers – 142 Firms participated.

WAY FORWARD MOU signed with South African Council for Graduate Cooperatives (SACGC)..SACGC will raise funds to finance 3000 unemployed youth and graduates in 2015/16 as part of one intern one estate agent. The project to be eligible for the Youth Employment Award as featured in the Presidential Youth Working Group headed by President Zuma. Engagement with various other stakeholders for sources of finance to assist with Laptops, cell phones and transportation for Learners. (NYDA)

WAY FORWARD Awareness campaigns with provincial MEC of the “One Learner One Estate Agent” Youth Brigade Programme Awareness campaigns to obtain more pledges for 2015/ placements batch. (Campaigns start in July/ August 2015) Engagements with diasbility groups.
