Counseling Connection

What is a School Counselor?? An adult to talk with about problems you are having that are getting in the way of being a successful student. Assists students with grades, organization, promotion, conflict mediation, etc. Advocates for YOU and helps you advocate for yourself!

What do I need to do to get promoted to the high school? Students must successfully pass: 3 years of Math 3 years of Social Studies (Pass Civics and EOC) 3 years of Language Arts 3 years of Science Successfully complete career component

How Do I Pass a Class?? In order to pass a class, students need to acquire 4 points in that subject over the course of the year. A = 4 points B = 3 points C = 2 points D = 1 point F = 0 points

Grading Scale A = 90 – 100 A = 90 – 100 B = 80 – 89 B = 80 – 89 C = 70 – 79 C = 70 – 79 D = 60 – 69 D = 60 – 69 F = 0 – 59 F = 0 – 59 0’s SINK YOUR GRADE!!!!

STUDENT IS PROMOTED BUT……. MUST MAKE UP CLASSES BEFORE ENTERING HIGH SCHOOL!

How do I “recover” a class?  Instead of an elective, student will have to take the class the next school year.  Student can attempt to recover the class during the summer through Florida Virtual School, which is VERY CHALLENGING!

What is Connections? Meets once a month for about 30 minutes. Non Academic time to discuss issues important to you as a student.

What is bullying? Punching, shoving, or any other acts that purposely hurt someone physically Spreading rumors Teasing someone in a mean way Keeping certain people out of group = isolation

What is Cyberbullying? Sending mean or threatening texts and/or s Posting mean/threatening messages and pictures on Facebook, Kik, Instagram, Twitter, Oovoo, or other websites Posting rumors about someone on Facebook, Skype or other websites Hacking into someone’s account to post messages

What can I do if I am being bullied? What can I do if I am being bullied?  Tell an adult! Let your teacher, associate, school counselor and/or parent know right away.  Fill out a form at the school counselor’s office. You can fill it out anonymously if you would like.  Tell your friends!
