World Literature 3207 The Hit Squad

Theme Analysis Theme: The overall message of the literary work. Examples of theme in The Hit Squad ◦ The struggle between convention vs rebellion/Good vs bad ◦ Every choice has a consequence ◦ Revenge is sweet but dangerous

Examples 1. Bullying -Mickey and Birgit are bullied -They could report the incidents to a teacher (convention), but they choose rebellion instead.

Examples 2. Making friends -Mickey tries to fit in by joining the football team and being nice to others (convention). -He sees the Hit Squad (rebellion) as another way to fit in.

Examples 3. Hit Squad -The HS sees bullying as a serious issue in their school and want to eliminate it (convention) -The HS seeks revenge to “teach” the bullies their lesson (rebellion).

Examples 4. Attack #2/Heck -Mickey wants the HS to be successful so he asks Heck to help. This has the potential to strengthen his relationship with Heck (convention) -Attack #2 is very dangerous and leads to the injury and death (rebellion).
