LOOKING FOR PLACE TO CALL THEIR OWN Older generations now joining social media (Ex. Facebook) “Privacy isn’t necessarily something that they have; rather it is something they are actively and continuously trying to achieve in spite of structural or social barriers that make it difficult to do so.”

CLASS RELATION – INEQUALITY “As I describe throughout this book, the mere existence of technology neither creates nor magically solves cultural problems.” TECHNOLOGY Expected to solve cultural problems – not the case People bring their identities, values, opinions with them Products appear in the market, people realize aspects of technology and it’s design result in biases that disproportionately affect certain users Microsoft Kinnect – Face recognition - difficulty capturing darker skinned people Apple Siri – Voice recognitions – difficulty picking up some accents (Ex. Scottish, Southern US, Indian) PREJUDICE, RACISM, INTOLERANCE

RECOMMENDATION? YES, I would recommend this book Relates to our generation Discusses issues that you may have with your own parents Social media and how it has altered the way people interact Obtain a better understanding of how other people look at social media and our networked world
