Presentation transcript:

ANYTHING THAT GETS INVENTED AFTER YOU’RE THIRTY IS AGAINST THE NATURAL ORDER OF THINGS AND THE BEGINNING OF THE END OF CIVILISATION AS WE KNOW IT …UNTIL IT’S BEEN AROUND FOR ABOUT TEN YEARS WHEN IT GRADUALLY TURNS OUT TO BE ALRIGHT REALLY.” DOUGLAS ADAMS Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) “Everything that’s already in the world when you’re born is just normal;

I can expect my learning environment to support me to: develop my self-awareness, self-worth and respect for others meet challenges, manage change and build relationships experience personal achievement and build my resilience and confidence learn about where to find help and resources to inform choices assess and manage risk and understand the impact of risk-taking behaviour reflect on my strengths and skills to help me make informed choices when planning my next steps

Social and Emotional Health I am learning about respect for my body and what behaviour is right and wrong. I know who I should talk to if I am worried about this. HWB 0-49a / HWB 1-49a I know that all forms of abuse are wrong and I am developing the skills to keep myself safe and get help if I need it. HWB 2-49a I value the opportunities I am given to make friends and be part of a group in a range of situations. HWB 0-14a / HWB 1-14a / HWB 2-14a / HWB 3-14a / HWB 4-14a I am learning to assess and manage risk, to protect myself and others, and to reduce the potential for harm when possible. HWB 0-16a / HWB 1-16a / HWB 2-16a / HWB 3-16a / HWB 4-16a

Learning in the technologies enables me to: develop an understanding of the role and impact of technologies in changing and influencing societies gain the confidence and skills to embrace and use technologies now and in the future, at home, at work and in the wider community I am developing my knowledge and use of safe and acceptable conduct as I use different technologies to interact and share experiences, ideas and information with others. TCH 1-08a / TCH 2-08a

Using ICT to enhance learning

What do we do in school? ICT responsible use agreement. Children encouraged to report any and all inappropriate images/websites accessed. All internet use supervised. Strongly filtered and monitored internet service. Keeping safe online lessons - “Think You Know”. Dealing with decision making and managing risk in difficult personal safety situations through the P6 and P7 “Keeping Myself Safe” programme.

What is cyberbullying? Threats and intimidation Threats sent to people by mobile phone, , or online. Harassment or stalking Repeated, prolonged, unwanted contact or monitoring of another person. Vilification / defamation / prejudice-based bullying These may be general insults or racist, homophobic or sexist bullying. Ostracising / peer rejection / exclusion Set up of a closed group refusing to acknowledge one user on purpose. Identity theft, unauthorised access and impersonation ‘Hacking’ by finding out or guessing a username and password. Publicly posting, sending or forwarding information or images Disclosing information on a website. Manipulation May involve getting people to act or talk in a provocative way. Safe to Learn: Embedding Anti-bullying Work in Schools. DCSF 2007

What can you do at home? Talk to your children about your concerns and the possible dangers. Be aware what websites they use. Where are they accessing the internet? Is it a safe, supervised place? Be clear on your own rules about what they can access and how they can communicate and what they can post. Make sure they know what to do if anything happens they are uncomfortable with.
