Symbolism: Let’s Review!!! IRONY: Verbal irony (also called sarcasm) is a trope in which a speaker makes a statement in which its actual meaning differs sharply from the meaning that the words ostensibly express. Often this sort of irony is plainly sarcastic in the eyes of the reader, but the characters listening in the story may not realize the speaker's sarcasm as quickly as the readers do.trope the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning:

How Ironic? What is Ironic Here? Can you spot it?: It is a fitness center that is open for 24 hours, yet what can you see that is ironic? Take a deeper look: The center states at the enterance: “24 Hour Fitness”, there is a stairway and an escalator. Which is the one being used? How ironic. You want to regain your natural weight, but chose to take an easier way out!

Review : TIGER STEPS to Answer Questions ANSWER the QUESTION! PROVE!! your Answer with a Quote. EXPLAIN AND make meaningful CONNECTIONS to your Answer

Read and Write your Response: You will have 10 minutes to write 3-5 lines and make connections to text. Read Passage from book « Beastly » by Alex Flinn: I am a beast. A beast. Not quite wolf or bear, gorilla or dog, but a horrible new creature who walks upright – a creature with fangs and claws and hair springing from every pore. I am a monster. You think I’m talking fairy tales? No way. The place is New York City. The time is now. It’s no deformity, no disease. And I’ll stay this way forever – ruined – unless I can break the spell. Yes, the spell, the one the witch in my English class cast on me. Why did she turn me into a beast who hides by day and prowls by night? I’ll tell you. I’ll tell you how I used to be Kyle Kingsbury, the guy you wished you were, with money, perfect looks, and a perfect life. And then, I’ll tell you how I became perfectly beastly. Question: How ironic is this? What can you find in the passage that gives you evidence of Irony? What is a beast? How is is that a human can be a monster? Or is he truly a Monster? Explain your answer and make text connections by finding a quote.
