Food is always available, but only to persons who can afford it.

People who can afford food, usually end up wasting it.

Often when buying food, people buy too much.

The food rots or goes bad after a while if not eaten.

A food bank’s stock like this, with huge proportions, only lasts about a week with all the people who come for food. Food banks can get donations from organizations, restaurants, and people. They also go and buy food in bulk from wholesale stores.

There are many seats at this soup kitchen so all the people coming can fit. Even then, people have to come in and eat quick so the next group can come and eat too.

Soup kitchens don’t give disgusting leftovers, but healthy, good food to the people in need of it.

People are still in need in this wealthy city.

Millions of people in New York City struggle to get food to feed themselves and their families, while others have so much that the food goes to waste. 30% of our perfectly good food grown is never eaten, but discarded before it gets to the market, while 1.7 million New Yorkers are living in poverty and can’t afford food. Food pantries and food banks help these people get food to eat. Churches like All Souls Church also help feed hungry people. On an average night at All Souls, they feed around 275 people. On busy nights, they feed around 330 people! There is a growing number of people who are poor and have trouble putting food on the table. Donating food and Volunteering at food banks is a great way to help out.
