What is a Resume?

What have we done so far? Taken assessments to help figure out what careers you might be interested in Singled out one career to investigate Found out the basic facts What kind of education you need Where you can search for job openings Learned some of what you need to know to be prepared for the job you are researching

What do you know about résumés? In your table groups quickly go over the example résumé and circle anything you think looks wrong Make sure you find at least 10 things wrong with the résumé You will have 5 minutes to complete the activity Be sure to observe the rules for working in groups

What’s wrong with this? Poorly Written Resume

Objectives Tie together what you each want to be with what your future employers are looking for Learn how to showcase your individual experiences and characteristics that set you apart from others Learn the basics of writing a résumé that will help you get the job you want

Parts of a Résumé Use the worksheet to take notes Example of a Resume

Where should you start? Planning your résumé is an important first step Get all of your information laid out before you begin writing Use the résumé worksheet to start getting your information together, and then we will begin inputting the information into your own résumé

Next time… We will work on inputting the information from your worksheets into a résumé on the computer. We will expand on what we learned today and talk about tying together your information with your ILP. Also, we will move into cover/application letters.
