WHEN CHRISTIANS GET IT WRONG

What do you want or expect to get out of this study?

Some of the issues we will discuss in this study will be controversial and there will be opinions on both sides. Everyone should feel free to share what they believe and why. The purpose of this study is for each of us to take a long hard look at ourselves and how we represent Christ to the world.

RULES OF DISCUSSION DO NOT THROW OBJECTS AT OTHER CLASS MEMBERS! TREAT OTHERS WITH RESPECT AND LISTEN TO THEIR SIDE.

Those who read When Christians Get It Wrong will gain a different way of understanding the issues that keep people away from Christianity and keep Christians from living a more compelling faith. Because, honestly, if we don’t start getting it right, we may lose an entire generation.

According to a recent study, CHRISTIANS are the main reason more and more young adults have opted out of Christianity and the church.

Christians have become famous for what we oppose rather than what we were are for. How do you feel about this statement?

Non-Christians think Christians are more concerned about being right than listening. How do you feel about this statement?

How outsiders perceive Evangelicals and Born- Again Christians (survey did not define the terms) Have a bad impression Christians in general – 38% Evangelical Christians – 49% Born-Again Christians – 35% What is your opinion of these statistics?

What does the term evangelical Christian mean to you? What does the term born-again Christian mean to you? Can a person be a Christian and NOT be born again?

When young adults talk about the problems they have with Christianity and the church, they often name certain attitudes and behaviors they believe are practiced too often by Christians: judging others condemning people of other faiths rejecting science injecting politics into faith being anti-homosexual How do you feel about this?

Survey Results 91% of those adults surveyed who were outside the Christian faith felt Christians were “anti- homosexual.” 87% felt Christians were judgmental. 85% felt Christians were hypocritical. 75% felt Christians were too political. 70% thought Christians were insensitive.

If we were to talk with people who know you, would they say you are anti-homosexual, too political, judgmental, insensitive, or hypocritical?
