Artist: Francisco Goya Born in 1746 in Spain Royal Court painter Painted things from real life This is a painting of him – there were no cameras!

Some of Goya’s Paintings These paintings are realistic portraits. What is a portrait? What does realistic mean?

“Don Manuel” Is this a boy or a girl? What else do you see in the picture? What is the child doing?

Texture: How something feels when you touch it. How do you think these pieces of fabric feel? How does the fabric in front of you feel?
