Artist: Francisco Goya Born in 1746 in Spain Royal Court painter Painted things from real life This is a painting of him – there were no cameras!

Some of Goya’s Paintings These paintings are realistic portraits. What is a portrait? What does realistic mean?

“Don Manuel” Is this a boy or a girl? What else do you see in the picture? What is the child doing?

Don Manuel by Goya What colors do you see? Do you see straight lines? Where? Can you imagine what the boy might do next?

Texture: How something feels when you touch it. How do you think these pieces of fabric feel? How does the fabric in front of you feel?

Can you see any texture on the painting? Where? How does it feel?
