New Procedures for Completing Improvement Plans By Tracy L. Chenoweth & Dr. Sherri Nash

Introduction In an effort to make the Improvement Plan submittal easier for schools and administrators, we have developed an online Improvement Plan database that provides Editing and online Storage and Retrieval capabilities. This presentation is designed to be an instructional tool.

Step One To find the new CTE Improvement Plan format you will first need to log on to the CTE Data Profile Management System – – Click on the ADMINISTRATION tab – Select Data Profile Management System from the listing of links – Log in via your username and password

4.

Step Two If you are in a county or school administrator with multiple schools, you will need to select the school. Example:

Step Three From the listing now select the concentration that has been identified via the data profile as “needing an improvement plan”.

Explanation So, how do you know which concentration is in need of an improvement plan? – You need to look very closely at your school profile data report – Look at the very last column of your Excel spreadsheet entitled, “Improvement Plan Submitted” – If you have an NR that means none is required. – If the field is blank, you need to submit an improvement package

Sample Data

Close-up view Notice which lines need to have an improvement package submitted

Step Four Now that the concentration has been selected you can begin working – For this example I am going to use Phillip Barbour’s E-Business Publishing This is just for an example – they may or may not need to submit for this concentration (demonstration only)

Lets take a Look Notice your navigation tools Notice that the most recent data is automatically populated for you

Lets take a Look Notice your workspace for the cause or causes of the identified deficiency Notice your workspace for up to three strategies, timelines per strategy, and person responsible/assigned to a particular strategy. Please be sure to fill out the document completely per strategy.. So if you have two strategies, fill in all of the info for two…if you have one… etc.

Activities/Strategies  Analyze deficiencies and develop activity strategies for improvement  Activity strategy examples are provided in the next slides for completers, ACT Work Keys, Global 21 Assessment, Placement, and Education deficiencies

Examples of Activities/Strategies  Work with counselors to assure four CTE core courses are available in the schedule and students are scheduled in the courses  Promote concentrations by highlighting positive performance (i.e. 94% placement)  Provide awareness of career opportunities and continuing education success

Examples of Activities/Strategies  Communicate student performance success to administrators, advisory councils, Board members, and community  Use student leaders and alumni to promote benefits of concentration  Assure students are prepared for ACT Work Keys and Global 21 assessments  Report accurate data

ACT Work Keys Deficiencies Examples of Activities/Strategies  Attend WVDE training for ACT Work Keys assessment preparation and implementation strategies  Prepare students prior to assessments (i.e. value of ACT Work Keys credential, test taking strategies)  Analyze specific skill deficiencies  Implement a structured process for students to use WIN/Key Train for remediation and track usage

ACT Work Keys Deficiencies Examples of Activities/Strategies  Integrate academic standards into the CTE curriculum  Work with academic teachers to identify strategies to improve specific skill areas  Use technology resources (ie. Tech Steps, Tooling U, Today’s Class) to reinforce locating information skills  Assure all completers are assessed  Retest after WIN/Key Train remediation (cost to school for 2 nd testing)  Use online testing with extended time for special needs students

Global 21 Assessment Deficiencies Examples of Activities/Strategies  Attend training for implementation strategies  Encourage teachers to share in exam decision-making  Use formative assessment approach  Utilize technology resources  Capitalize on industry certifications

Placement Deficiencies Examples of Activities/Strategies  Analyze labor market needs with advisory councils  Increase advisory council involvement  Use alumni as classroom speakers  Assure concentration prepares students for employment opportunities

Placement Deficiencies Examples of Activities/Strategies  Implement CTE e-mentoring  Work with local WIB/One Stops to register students for job placement services  Collect addresses of 3 contact people before students graduate for follow-up data

Continuing Education Deficiencies Examples of Activities/Strategies  Provide opportunities for students to explore continuing education  Conduct college tours/postsecondary education speakers in the classroom  Assure students/parents have access to Financial Aid workshops

Continuing Education Deficiencies Examples of Activities/Strategies  Participate in CTE e-mentoring  Provide counseling  Communicate alumni postsecondary success data

Lets take a Look When you are finished, be sure to click on the UPDATE button

Now What? Your information is fully editable- so if you leave this screen and come back your information will remain. You can change your information or add to it at anytime… just remember that each change requires you to click UPDATE.

Now What? Print out each of your plans – Be sure to print each of your improvement plans. – To print simply click File then Print – Your document will print to your designated printer

Now What? Use your navigation tools to perform the next step- if any

That is all there is to it!

Important Information 1.All improvement plans are due by September 15 th, You need to write your improvement plans based on the standards for the school year 3.If you had an improvement plan on a concentration last year, you simply need to update that plan on this platform – Make your modifications to that prior plan on this new platform

Standards for WorkKeys – Reading = 72% – Math = 72% – Locating Information = 66% Global 21 = 78% Placement – Positive placement = 92% – Jobs in field = 60%

Important Information As always, if you have any questions, concerns, errors, etc.. Please do not hesitate to contact Tracy L. Chenoweth, Dr. Sherri Nash and/or Ron Grimes. We are ready to work with you and ensure your plans are completed.

Thank you!
