The Elephant In “The Faith”
How do you know what place God has for you To be in Community?
What do you have to offer me?
What do you have to offer me? Trained by our culture To be continual consumers
Same type of person Will always know self-criticism
When I make things All about me That's where my eyes are And my world becomes Small and sad
Go…and make disciples - Jesus
The beginnings: In Community Seeking to Serve Living for more than self Carrying a cross
…they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers…
…all who believed were together and had all things in common
And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need
…And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts
…praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved - Acts 2:42-47
Doing life together Others-centered What do you have to offer me? What can I do to glorify Christ With you?
We make disciples who change their world for Christ… So that God will be glorified And people will become whole
Discipleship demands we Lose our lives While promising it will lead to Real Life
In other words… Your healing, growth, maturity Will come from serving God By helping others heal, grow Become
Very different from "What's in it for me?"
My dear children, let’s not just talk about love; let’s practice real love Jesus defines what love is…
This is the only way we’ll know we’re living truly, living in God’s reality
It’s also the way to shut down debilitating self-criticism, even when there is something to it
When I carry a cross Look to follow Jesus And serve as he leads…I'm free Because dead people don't Struggle with esteem issues
For God is greater than our worried hearts and knows more about us than we do ourselves Designed how we operate best
And friends, once that’s taken care of and we’re no longer accusing or condemning ourselves, we’re bold and free before God!
The freedom you want Isn't found in seeking freedom But finding a way to practice love In Fellowship
We’re able to stretch our hands out and receive what we asked for because we’re doing what he said, doing what pleases him
Again, this is God’s command: to believe in his personally named Son, Jesus Christ. He told us to love each other, in line with the original command - 1 John 3:18 -24
"What do you have to offer me?" "What's in it for me?" Doesn't give me what I want Doesn't set me free
"God, where do you want me?" "What are the needs and How have you equipped me To be involved?"
Bold and free before God! Your freedom is found In this: Let us practice real love
May not be seen Or noticed (By people)
We train disciples To carry a cross and Kill self-centeredness so that God is glorified People become whole
