Which wives had Henry already married? Henry was a young, fit man when he married Katherine of Aragon. She was a popular and faithful queen but she had no living sons and the king tired of her. Her daughter Mary was not considered to be strong enough as a woman to rule the country. Anne Boleyn was young, lively and good fun. When she came to Henry's court, she could speak French and dressed in fashionable French clothes. This attracted Henry. She lost favour with Henry when she gave birth to a daughter. Her second child, a son died. Henry felt that Anne had bewitched him into marriage and beheaded her for being unfaithful. Jane Seymour is the only wife to be buried alongside Henry. She gave him what he most wanted, a son but died shortly afterwards. The boy became Edward V1 at the age of 9. Anne of Cleves, was painted as good-looking. When Henry met her he thought that she was plain, shy and clumsy. Henry was getting old and was becoming bad tempered and unreasonable. Recent research indicates that Anne may not have been bad looking, Henry just disliked her.
