Why did he write it? Why did he write it? –He was preparing for a visit to Jerusalem and anticipated that he might be imprisoned –He wanted to preserve his thoughts on God (“theology”) just in case –If he survived, he wanted to prepare for a visit to Rome and perhaps Spain
