Matisse Timeline Born in Northern France in His parents were wealthy merchants he studies Law in Paris In 1889 he had a serious attack of appendicitis and that is when he discovered his love of art. In 1891 he returned to Paris to Study art at the Acadmie Julian He became part of the artistic movement “Fauvism” which lasted from The term loosely translated to “wild beast” 1941 Matisse is diagnosed with cancer and, following surgery, he begins to using a wheelchair.
