Athletic Training Room Policies & ProceduresPolicies & Procedures

WFHS Sports Medicine Program Athletic Training Room Expectations Policies & Procedures

Student Expectations When in the athletic training room, either as a student athlete or a student aide it will be expected that you follow the policies and procedures. As a student athlete you need to sign-in and relate to Ryan May what you need. Follow instructions that he gives you. You will respect Ryan and his athletic training room

Policies & Procedures Profanity will not be tolerated in the training room at any time. All student athletes must sign-in Students are not permitted to touch any of the therapeutic modalities (stim, laser, or ultrasound machines). Certified AT’s are the only ones allowed to set-up and administer treatments. The sports medicine instructors will not hand out or dispense any medication, students will have to see the nurse during school hours. Students are responsible for bringing and keeping track of their own inhalers and other vital medication. Students need to clean up after themselves.

Policies Please no running in the training room or athletic hallways Horse play will not be tolerated Athletic Training staff will only fix stupid injuries either after yelling at you or after laughing at you for several moments Cleats should be put on outside, cleats should not be worn in the athletic hallways. If you put them on in the locker room then exit out the back doors and take them off before entering the building. You will need a coach to let you in the locker room, the athletic training staff will not let you in. Students need to be supervised while in the locker rooms, training rooms, and gyms.

Cleaning All coolers should be cleaned when returned and then placed upside down without the lid on. Water bottles need to be cleaned and sanitized everyday and placed upside down in the carries to air dry. Lids shall be washed and left to air dried as well. The room will be swept everyday and mopped everyday as needed, at least 3 times a week. Towels should be washed at least twice a week. Trashed needs to be picked up off the counters and placed in the trashcan. If you make a mess clean it up.

Attire Students Athletes need to have on a shirt and shorts/pants at all times, unless they are receiving a treatment. Student Aides need to wear closed toed shoes when in the training room and when at practices or events. Student Aides should be in WFHS apparel for games (T-shirts not modified) and either jeans, khaki shorts or pants and black mesh shorts or warm-ups Yoga pants/leggings and tank- tops are not appropriate attire

Practices Students should be attentive to the water on the field, making sure the waterboy and coolers are filled. During football practices students should have six pack of water and take it to the groups throughout practice. Students should not engage the student athletes in random conversations at practice (no distracting) Always inform the athletic trainer of anything that happens as soon as you can. Remember you can not evaluate or diagnosis any injury. Follow the directions of the athletic trainer and coaches in emergency situations.

First Aid Always wear gloves when helping anyone with blood or other body fluids Dispose of gloves and bloody gauze correctly Always check the kit for supplies before practice or games Inform the athletic trainer when you help someone Get the coach or the athletic trainer in the event of any head/neck injury, lots of blood, or broken bones right away.
