Instructional Design Unit on MyFiles Located at: Goal Statement Assessment Content Presentation and Student Participation entation+and+Student+Participation

Applied Learning Theories of Cognitive Development:  Piaget’s Theory  Neo-Piagetian Theory  Vygotsky’s Theory  Bloom’s Taxonomy  Bloom’s REVISED Taxonomy  Bloom’s DIGITAL Taxonomy

Children think differently at different ages. Piaget Stages of Development Neo Piagetian theories Vygotsky

Challenge Piaget - Disequilibrium leads to cognitive development Vygotsky - Zone of Proximal Development

Vygotsky & Scaffolding Help students develop a plan for dealing with a new task. Give specific guidelines for accomplishing the task. MyFiles worksheet that outlines the steps for downloading and uploading files through the MyFiles System How to PPT file with screen shots of how to use MyFiles Directions for how to upload/download after the MyFiles login screen

Vygotsky & Scaffolding Model the correct performance of a task Teachers modeled with projector in the lab how to use the MyFiles System Students were then allowed to login and view the MyFiles System

Vygotsky & Scaffolding Divide a complex task into several smaller, simpler activities (See Goal Analysis on Keep students motivated to complete the task The Computer Teachers gave extra credit to students who could upload a digital picture of their house or pet from home to the SJY network

Bloom’s Taxonomy Bloom’s Taxonomy:  Knowledge > Comprehension > Application Bloom’s Revised & Digital Taxonomy:  Remembering > Understanding > Applying (Digital Verb: Uploading)

Piaget’s Theory Concrete Operations Stage of Development.  age 6 or 7 until age 11 or 12  ability “to reason in logical, adult like ways about concrete, reality-based situations” (Ormrod, 313). Formal Operations Stage  age 11 – 12 to Adult  “can now think logically about abstract, hypothetical, and contrary-to-fact situations. They acquire many capabilities essential for advanced reasoning in math and science” (Ormrod, 313).
