Climate convergence World social forum Tunis 28th March

The French Coalition

Who are we? An alliance made up of 100 organisations: trade unions, social movements, environmental and development NGOs, youth groups, faith-based organisations, local groups (energy transition, anti-fracking, water), Alternatiba groups, small and big logos Born early 2014, following a shift in UNFCCC strategies and the Warsaw walk-out / without a citizen mobilization nothing would change Hub for mobilization planning in France to continue an ecological and citizen transition from the social movements Connecting with international networks and local groups on a regular basis : conference call every month ; international meeting on Monday and Tuesday in Tunis, now the next step is the 13th-14th June meeting and the 8th-9th October in Paris, the last one before the COP. On the international mailing-list, many information is shared with key points in many languages ; interactive and collective initiatives map on the coalition website (in French, English and Spanish)

The French call to action Weekend of May 30th and 31st 1000 local initiatives for climate change Weekend of September 26th and 27th A weekend of actions around citizen-driven solutions in France, with a massive Alternatiba in Paris November 28th or 29th A decentralized mass mobilization in capital cities to raise expectations on climate action by national and local governments During the 2 weeks of the COP Escalation of mobilizations, CSO space December 12th A mass mobilization reclaiming people power and paving the way to what next as the fight against climate change does not end in Paris

Mobilization agenda During COP: 28/29th : Mass decentralised mobilizations in capital cities with people's demands Dec 12th : Mass mobilization to Paris to show people's power Throughout the year : April 18th : Global day again free trade agreements May/June : 1000 initiatives for climate (France, May 30-31), G7 Sept 26/27th : mobilizations on alternatives and people'solutions (Alternatiba ) Oct 9/10 : Days against Dirty Energy (Reclaim Power) Oct 16th : Day for food and climate Nov 10th : Day for impacted people

Corporate Power & Trade Key outcomes  Continuous convergence  Political mapping of all our struggles  Interconnected struggles Key demands  System change approach = Corporations & government constructed a system where cooperate in impunity (trade agreements linked to climate ) Key dates July 6th : joint moment for the global campaign to dismantle corporate power in Geneva during the meeting of the Intergovernmental Working Group on Human Right and Alternatiba will come to Geneva, important to converge during this event

Food and land Key outcomes  Agroecology for food sovereignty  Farmers have real solutions  End industrial agriculture which is responsible of CC Key demands  Citizens have to defend and support farmers agriculture  More support is needed : join the actions ! Key dates  April, 11-12th : weekend on climate and industrialization of agriculture  Check Via campesina website for more info

Energy Key outcomes  Common themes : need to talk about energy more about electricity  Confronting corporate power more strongly: divestment from FF, struggle against false solutions (fracking, agrofuels,...)  Trade agreements preventing FF divestment  Energy democracy : not just about Ren.Energy but about our needs + ownership model Key demands  Energy democracy = self determination  Leave the tar sands in the lands  People's solutions in a just transition Key dates  June 7th : ban of new dirty energy projects (G7)  September 26th : alternatives day (alternative energy)  October 9th, 10th = dirty energy / Reclaim Power  November 10th = mobilization for impacted people

Fracking Key outcomes  Struggle in all countries, many concerns about the impacts  Connections of struggles in the region against fracking  Global solidarity against corporations (national, regional, international solidarity needed) Key demands  No fracking in In Salah and in the rest of the world Key dates SIGN ON THE DECLARATION !

Trade unions Key outcomes  Just transition (highlighted during COP20 / negotiated with gov Brazil) Key demands  Just transition discussed during COP Key dates  International meeting in May, 2015 in Brazil (website)

Alternatiba Key outcomes  Positive feedbacks  Alternatiba = concrete & efficient tool for people to highlight alternatives  Build a global village of alternatives during COP21 in Paris Key demands  Call all citizens and social movements to start and strenghten the ecological ad social transition without relying on hypothetical political agreement at COP21  Governments should remove all the legal and administrative barriers, obstacles that prevent the development of citizens alternatives and a global transition should facilitate citizens- based alternatives  Governments should stop subsidies to fossil fuels. Public subsidies should go for sobriety policies, and development of sustainable energy. Key dates  Alternatiba to come in Tunis ?  May st to denounce responsibles for climate change  June 5 th to September 26 th : alternatiba tour bike  September 26 th : Alternatiba in Paris, Day of transition  Global village of alternatives during COP21.

Women Key outcomes  Patriarcal system  Climate justice can't be achieved without global picture  Militarism used to control territories, work,…  Violences against women linked to CC Key demands  Build consciousness  Solutions have to come from the people Key dates  April 24th : day to connect women (collapse of Rhana Plaza) 1 hour of action (12 to 1pm)

Finance Key outcomes  System change = change financial sector. Committment between ATTAC and Secours Catholique to work on finance change

Climate space without a citizen mobilization nothing would change  Outcome of Paris not about system change but more false solutions, capitalism, corporate power  Not about leaving FF in the ground but ambiguous, opening door to false solutions Key demands  Seattle scenario : stop a very bad deal that is about to burn the planet  System change : end patriarchy, neocolonialism, confront free trade agreements, militarism / low consumption, EnR, end austerity measures, change our banking & financial system, …  Don't trust UNFCCC See attached the Conclusion of the Climate Space meeting of this week in Tunis

Mining Key outcomes / demands  Connect communities affected by extractivism  Issues of water, land, corporations, affected communities  Deep connections between workers and communities  Crisis of climate linked with crisis of mining : people affected by mining = affected by CC Key dates  August, 16 th : international day in defense of communities and workers affected by mining

Land and water Key outcomes  Dakar :first declaration for the fights on land and water ; take our back our territories, defend the communities that are resisting  Unity between struggles for land and water  Creation of a solidarity system to defend activists around the world) Key demands  Join us ! Key dates  July, 6 th to 10 th : meeting in Geneva to denounce corporations  Presence during COP21
