The Desert

The prairie dog A desert animal is the Prairie dog.To start, the prairie dog weighs pounds. The length with tail is 3-5 inches. The height is 3-4 inches.The prairie dogs maturity is at 1 year. Then, they mate in March through April. Prairie dogs belong to the rodent family. They may have 3-8 babies. The life span is 3-5 years in the wild. There are 5 types of prairie dogs in North America. Finally, prairie dogs live in colonies.

Scorpions The scorpion is a very interesting animal in the desert.To start, it has a crab like apperance because it has a shell.secondly, it has four pairs of legs.Finally, the scorpions, are carnivores.They eat insects,spiders, and other scorpions.

Bats The bat is another animal that lives in the desert. For starters, the bat eats insects. They also eat cactus nectar. When it’s night they come to hunt. Bats weigh 3 to6 pounds. The Mexican free black tailed bat sleeps during the day and comes out in the night. They use echolocation to find their food. The bat is a consumer. It can eat insects so it is a carnivore. Finally, this is one type of bat in the desert.

Mexican wolf The Mexican Wolf is another animal that lives in the desert. First and foremost, it is almost extinct. Yet another fact about the wolf is that his fur is gray. It has 3-4 babies. It is a carnivore. They eat prairie dogs and rats. This pup is four weeks old and is heading to his den.

Soap tree yucca The desert tree yucca is very interesting plant in desert. This desert plant is a foot plant. The tree yucca is so called for the presence of a soap like material. It is used for decorations. Last but not least, the soap tree yucca makes it’s own food.

Angelina stonecrop Angelina stonecrop is a fast growing plant that stays short. It produces clusters of star shaped yellow blooms. In the growing season the needle like foliage will turn gold. Tints of orange or rust must come into foliage in fall. Angelina stays green all winter long.

Desert spoon The desert spoon is a type of plant in the desert. To start, it can store water inside. They are thick to reduce water loss. Secondly, the desert spoon’s leaves are trimmed. The indians used them in baskets. Finally, the woody stems are used to make juce called sotol Mmmmmmm!

ALOE The Aloe is very interesting plant. The Aloe has a waxy surface that keeps water inside. The juice inside has been used for centuries by Natives for medicine. It is used by doctors. Many people keep them in their home. Aloe helps burns.
