Presented by RHS PARRC Assessment Robbinsville Public Schools 2015
WelcoWelcome and Agendamane 1.Introductions 2.Goals: a.Provide information for the PARCC assessment b.Engage in sample test questions 3. PARCC Information 4. Let’s play 5. Q&A
Assessment is the process of gathering and discussing information from multiple and diverse sources in order to develop a deep understanding of what students know, understand, and can do with their knowledge as a result of their educational experiences; the process culminates when assessment results are used to improve subsequent learning. (Learner-Centered Assessment on College Campuses: shifting the focus from teaching to learning by Huba and Freed 2000) Assessment Defined
What is PARCC? ●The state of New Jersey, along with 12 other states and the District of Columbia, have chosen Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) as the assessment to measure students’ progress against the Common Core Standards. ●Federal law (No Child Left Behind and Race to the Top) requires states to assess student progress against rigorous standards. In NJ, the administration of PARCC will replace NJASK and HSPA testing.
How Will the District Use PARCC Data? Performance data generated by the PARCC assessment represents only one component of assessment data used to inform and drive instruction within our schools. How Data is UsedHow Data is Not Used ●Identify trends to strengthen instruction and curriculum development ●Plan and provide professional development around CCSS ●Monitor opportunities for all students to access advanced level courses ●Promote collaboration within professional learning communities ●Towards calculating a student’s grade ●In determining course placement
Any student who is enrolled in: ● English I, ● English II, or ● English III (includes AP students) Any student enrolled in: ●Algebra I, ●Algebra II, ●or Geometry Who Takes the Test?
Performance-Based Assessment (PBA) administered after approximately 75% of the school year. The ELA/literacy PBA will focus on writing effectively when analyzing text. The mathematics PBA will focus on expressing mathematical reasoning and modeling real-world problems. PARCC Administration End-of-Year Assessment (EOY) administered after approximately 90% of the school year. The ELA/literacy EOY will focus on reading comprehension. The mathematics EOY will call on students to demonstrate further conceptual understanding of the Major Content and Additional and Supporting Content of the grade/course (as outlined in the PARCC Model Content Frameworks).PARCC Model Content Frameworks
Testing Dates and Times Testing dates for ELA and Mathematics: Performance Based Assessment March and March 23 and 24 (English Only) End of Year April 22-April 30 (tentative) The 8 days will be modified. The schedule was developed by a team of teachers and allows for the least disruptive day.

●Our curriculum is aligned to the standards. Robbinsville had begun this process in ●Cross content work in all core classes (Close Reading and Textual Evidence Strategies) ●English PLC- implementing independent reading ●Math PLC - implementing mathematical modeling and multi-part, real-world problems ●Non-tested contents have been trained in reading strategies and are applying those strategies to their content. ●Department meetings focused on literary analysis tasks, research simulation tasks, and prose constructed responses ●Teachers and students have taken sample tests ●Students are being exposed to the technology via Chromebooks Robbinsville PARCC Readiness
Mathematics ●In March, students will: ●solve problems involving the key knowledge and skills for their course ●express mathematical reasoning ●construct a mathematical argument ●apply concepts to model real-world problems ●In May, students will: ●demonstrate their acquired skills and knowledge by answering computer-based, machine-scored questions ●What you need to know? ●Graphing calculator available on-screen; may also bring their own equivalent ●Scrap paper is permitted ●Compass, protractor, ruler are available on-screen ●Students enrolled in both Geometry and Algebra 2 will take the Algebra 2 assessment ONLY
English Language Arts Literacy Tasks: ● Literary Analysis Task-Students will compare 2 texts and answer a few short questions to demonstrate their analytic reading ability. Students will then write a literary analysis about the two texts. ● Research Simulation Task- Students will compare 3 text and/or media sources and synthesize the information to answer research based questions using textual evidence ● Narrative Task- Students will write a story, detail a scientific process, write a historical account of important figures, or describe an account of events
How Can I Help My Child? How caWhaI help my child? ● Good night’s rest! ● Eat a healthy breakfast! ●Be on time for school. ● No cell phones or music players, etc. in the testing room. ● Students need to bring in headphones for media on the assessment. ● Practice the tutorials together.
