Consumerist Culture Characteristics: 1.Competition of products in open market. 2.Rapid turnover of products. 3.Advertisement play a great role. 4.Value is measured by appeal to the consumer and not by true usefulness or benefit.

Media Addiction It is a known diagnosis “Internet/video game addiction disorder” Movies is the single most potent (strongest) force motivating children to start smoking Children who watch sexual content in media usually become sexually active at a younger age than those who don’t.

Media Addiction Violence in Media: Media: food for the brains. Ratings have shifted one full point every 11 years, so the movie that was R rated 11 years ago, now is PG 13.

Information Accessibility Encyclopedias of information at fingertips can lead to 1.Leads to a false sense of knowing 2.Overwhelming sense of not knowing enough 3.Can be viewed as personal library to visit on demand for constructive learning
