Cyprus Entered the EU in 2004 Since 1960 (Independence) it has experienced a ‘national’ problem and has, since 1974, been partitioned A few weeks before becoming an EU member a referendum took place on each side of the island on a comprehensive proposal for reunification on the basis of a federal solution - but failed RESTART Belfast 2010
