Making Videoclips in Modern Languages using Imovies App on the Ipad in the classroom Bernie O’ Shea

This presentation is primarily pitched at teachers who feel they are not very familiar with IT but would like to carry out IT related activities in the classroom with the objective of improving the target language

Key points to give some thought to first of all…. Keep it simple to begin with Story Board – What is our videoclip about? What’s going to happen? Keep all shots short.. Camera Angles - Vary it… Volume: Dialogue / Background Music… Speed up / Slow down video clips… Text – Subtitle – Intro – Conclusion… Lengthen or Shorten video clips… Final Cut…. Enjoy !!!....

How to be happy ….. To use the imperative structure to make a short video clip in Spanish on how to be happy This video was made in a 35 minute class with 30 students – planned, recorded, edited and shown to class!

Video Clips Needed….in this order - handed out to class in initial stages of class Introduction students walking down corridor 2 groups of students giving their opinion on how to be happy students happy! 2 more groups of students giving their opinion on how to be happy students High 5!! Conclusion

Another example…. Think of short dialogues /sentences you’d like students to say… Story board what you would like to happen Camera Angles… varied Speed up / slow down vary Background music…. Text ….. Voice over….

Mobile Phones? To use to make a short video clip in Spanish on using mobile phones in class or NOT!! Objective: to practice key vocabulary in specific areas at various levels within one class

And now…!! During the final quarter of this presentation I will make a short video with the teachers present I will briefly teach editing skills of the app: volume, music, video, speed etc.. as well as highlight key considerations before video recording commences

One last great idea…!! Among a wide variety of carry-on activities students can be encouraged to make a short video clip (3 min max!!) in groups ; advertisement/ story/ music video etc… and present to the International Film Festival which will be taking place in Mounthawk May 2015!! Sample videos available on request Bernie O’ Shea – Mounthawk, Tralee
