Faculty Force Field

Formal Strategies and Goals Promote a culture for faculty to make a full and unconstrained contribution to the quality of life and learning experienced by KVCC students. – Use the Community College Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (CCFSE) to assess faculty use of retention strategies – Promote on-boarding activities and other opportunities to learn about student support services – Develop a process to help faculty improve awareness of at-risk student attributes and their use of existing college resources that could ameliorate those attributes – Create organizational structure that will promote high and consistent standards to allow faculty additional opportunities to support student success. – Develop a communication plan to ensure faculty are kept fully aware of information related to student retention

Current Proposals Use the CCSFE and review the results Promote Seminar Days and other professional development opportunities to part time faculty Work with FSC to develop strong professional development programs Promote a system of mentorship through lead instructors

Informal Strategy Literature suggests no faculty ‘buy in’ when discussing retention Focus on finding opportunities for faculty to go beyond the classroom to support student learning Build opportunities for collaboration, culture development, and defining purpose with students, instructors, administrators, and staff

Current Projects Recruit faculty to new student orientations Encourage faculty to attend KVCC Foundation Dinner Promote faculty leadership in project development for Cougars Creating Community
