Welcome The MCTC Library provides access to resources in support of your coursework. The library also provides access to materials such as reference books, special collections, AV materials, newspapers, magazines and journals, and an array of Internet resources. The MCTC library staff is happy to assist you with your research needs.

Library Mission The Mission of the MCTC Library is to provide information resources and services to the students, faculty and staff, as well as to patrons who reside in the college's service area. The Library web address is

Library Locations Maysville Community and Technical College’s libraries are ready to assist you with your informational needs. Finding books, articles, or other Internet resources begins at the Library. Library Hours Are Posted Hours during the regular semester – Maysville Campus 8am-7pm (Mon-Thurs) 8am-4:30pm (Fri) – LVC and Rowan Campus 8am-4:30pm (Mon) 8am-7pm (Tues-Wed) 8am-4:30pm (Thurs-Fri) – Please note that LVC and Rowan are closed daily for lunch from 1pm-2pm Check the website to confirm hours at Hours.aspx Hours.aspx

Library Services Borrowing – MCTC students may checkout up to six items at a time, including two audio visual materials. Our checkout period is for four weeks for books and for one week for audio visual materials. Late items are assessed an overdue fine, 10 cents a day for books and $1 a day for audio visual materials. A HOLD is placed on student records for overdue library fines.

Library Services 2 Photocopier – Each campus library has access to a photocopier for student use. Copies are $0.10 per sheet. Computers – Each campus library provides student access to computers for library research, word-processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, and Blackboard access for course work.

Library Services 3 Library online databases vs. the INTERNET – The library has access to subscription databases, such as ProQuest and EBSCOhost to facilitate your research. These databases provide you with current and scholarly articles and materials to successfully complete your coursework. The library’s online resources come from reliable sources, when doing research you should utilize these databases and avoid relying upon general INTERNET search engines, such as Google or Wikipedia.

Reading Adult Easy Readers – The Library maintains an Adult Easy Reading section at the Maysville campus. The Adult Easy Reading titles are for adult learners who would like to read for pleasure. MCTC has many fiction and nonfiction selections for adult learners to enjoy.

Reading The Library promotes the joy of reading through regional and national programs. – For example, the BIG READ an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts, designed to restore reading to the center of American culture. The Big Read brings together partners across the country to encourage reading for pleasure and enlightenment MCTC promoted The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton and hosted a film discussion and poetry reading MCTC promoted Great Tales and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe and hosted two dramatic readings for students, faculty staff and the community.

College QEP Focus on Reading Through the College QEP reading is enhanced through a process that allows the student to develop critical reading skills through: – Content Analysis – Outlining – Paraphrasing – Questioning

Partner in the Classroom Our library staff works closely with MCTC teaching faculty to provide access to resources in support of the curriculum. The library also works closely with faculty to instill information literacy skills into our students and to bring our collections to life in the classroom.

Partner in the Classroom 2 The library has developed online tutorials to facilitate information literacy and research skills within our students, focusing on RDG, GE, ENC and ENG courses.

Partner in the Classroom 3 The library provides general tours upon request for courses such as Communications, History, Religion, Nursing, and Industrial Maintenance.

Partner in the Classroom 4 The library provides intensive instructional sessions for ENG 101 and ENG 102, including a required graded component.

Partner in the Classroom recap The Library provides resources to support the curriculum. The Library offers online tutorials. The Library offers general tours. The Library offers instructional sessions.

Library Etiquette Please be aware of others while using the library and library computers. – Keep noise levels to a minimum. – No food or drinks are permitted in the library. Please place any food items in your backpack, book-bag or leave outside the library before entering. – Step outside of the library and/or computer lab for cell phone calls and texting.
